Maintenance TechnicianPerforms cleaning, repair, and maintenance of all County owned buildings, property, and related facilities. Ensures compliance with safety standards involving such public buildings, structures, and grounds for the benefit of county employees and the public.Essential Job Functions:Monitor, repair, install, and perform routine maintenance on all County owned buildings and associated equipment. This includes preventative maintenance.Design, build, install and/or repair County facilities and equipment using technical knowledge, skills, abilities, techniques, and equipment customary to mechanical, electrical, painting, drywall repair, woodworking, plumbing, and masonry work.Replaces air conditioner filters and monitors the performance of heating/air conditioning systems as needed.Cleans sidewalks and outside area of debris or snow and ice as needed. May be called in after or before hours to make sure roadways and walkways are clear for staff and the public.Mows lawns, trims shrubbery, cultivates flowers, and operates small equipment as needed.Assists in maintenance of lawn and garden tools and equipment including changing oil, filters, lubrication and cleaning as needed.Repair, move, and set up office and facility furniture and equipment as needed.Assists with painting all county owned facilities.Responds to emergencies, including but not limited to; structural problems, equipment failure, plumbing and electrical issues, fire alarms, and power failures at all hours.Follows all safety rules and addresses any safety concerns before starting project.Serves as back-up for custodians, as needed.Performs related tasks as required.Preferred Qualifications:Care, maintenance, and safe operation of assigned equipmentBasic cleaning methodsUse of vacuums, buffers, other cleaning equipmentLight maintenance such as painting and small repairsHand tools for yard maintenanceMowing equipmentSafety in the workplaceAbilities:Ability to efficiently communicate in English both written and verbalAbility to take direction from supervisor and other team membersAbility to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral formAbility to take initiative and to accomplish all assigned tasksAbility to see areas that need maintenanceAbility to work unsupervisedAbility to work schedule as set by supervisorAbility to work with a team or independently as neededAbility to follow policies and procedures of the CountyAbility to meet the physical requirements listed belowEducation and Experience:High school diploma or GED; or up to one month of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceMust pass Alamosa County background check and pre-employment drug testingValid Colorado Driver's License requiredPhysical Requirements, Work Conditions and Environment:Moderate to heavy physical requirements needed for grounds maintenance. Ability to maneuver uneven terrain. Duties performed in all types of weather conditions, cold, hot temperatures, high winds. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit, talk, walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, see, and hear. Hearing and vision correctable to normal ranges; close-up vision and the ability to adjust focus across a distance. The employee is required to communicate both orally and in writing. Employee must be able to reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls, drive, frequently lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Employee must be able to work in an environment that could be very noisy.
