Fiber Optic Splicer / Troubleshooter (OSP & Underground Utilities)

Position Overview Terra Contracting is seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Splicer / Troubleshooter to join our growing telecommunications division. This position plays a critical role in the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and restoration of fiber optic networks in active underground utility construction environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong fusion splicing experience, be proficient in OTDR testing and fault isolation, and have the ability to diagnose and resolve service interruptions in both new and existing fiber networks. This is a field-based position requiring work outdoors in varying weather conditions, around excavation equipment, and alongside underground utility construction crews. Responsibilities Perform fusion splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables. Conduct OTDR testing, power meter testing, and network validation. Troubleshoot fiber optic network issues including signal degradation, fiber cuts, damaged connectors, and service interruptions. Analyze test results to identify and isolate faults within fiber optic systems. Perform repairs and restoration activities to maintain network integrity. Work closely with underground utility crews, equipment operators, and construction supervisors. Maintain accurate documentation of splicing, testing, and troubleshooting activities. Ensure all work meets industry standards, customer specifications, and safety requirements. Support construction activities as needed in active utility construction environments. Follow all OSHA, company, and customer safety procedures. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of fiber optic splicing experience. Experience utilizing OTDRs, power meters, and fiber testing equipment. Proven troubleshooting experience within fiber optic networks. Strong understanding of fiber optic construction methods and industry standards. Ability to read and interpret fiber optic schematics and network documentation. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in active construction environments. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications FOA Fiber Optic Technician Certification or equivalent. Experience with underground utility construction. Experience working in OSP (Outside Plant) fiber environments. OSHA 10 Certification or ability to obtain. Experience with telecommunications, broadband, and utility infrastructure projects.
