About the Role:

The Registered Nurse in the Preadmission department plays a critical role in preparing patients for upcoming surgical or diagnostic procedures by conducting thorough assessments and ensuring all necessary information is accurately collected and communicated. This position involves evaluating patients' medical histories, current health status, and any potential risks to optimize patient safety and procedural outcomes. The nurse collaborates closely with physicians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care plans and facilitate smooth admissions processes. Additionally, the role requires educating patients and their families about preoperative instructions, medication management, and what to expect during their procedures. Ultimately, this position ensures that patients are well-prepared, informed, and supported, contributing to efficient clinical operations and high-quality patient care.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New Jersey.
• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• BLS and ACLS certification.
• Minimum of one year clinical nursing experience, preferably in preoperative, surgical, or ambulatory care settings.
• Strong knowledge of nursing principles, patient assessment, and documentation standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
• Advanced certifications such as Certified Ambulatory Perioperative Nurse (CAPA) or Preoperative Nursing Certification.
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, particularly Epic or Cerner.
• Familiarity with preadmission testing protocols and perioperative nursing practices.
• Excellent communication and patient education skills.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive preadmission assessments including reviewing medical histories, current medications, allergies, and previous surgical experiences.
• Perform vital signs monitoring and necessary diagnostic tests as ordered to evaluate patient readiness for procedures.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to communicate patient information and coordinate care plans effectively.
• Provide patient education regarding preoperative instructions, medication adjustments, fasting requirements, and procedural expectations.
• Document all assessments, findings, and communications accurately in the electronic health record system.
• Identify and report any potential risks or concerns to the appropriate healthcare providers promptly.
• Assist in scheduling and coordinating preadmission testing appointments to ensure timely patient flow.
• Maintain compliance with facility policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
