Posting Details Announcement Information Job SummaryThe Oberlin Conservatory invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Opera Theater beginning in the 2027-28 academic year.AboutThe Oberlin Conservatory of Music, founded in 1865, is the nation’s oldest continuously operating conservatory, and the only major music school in the country linked with a preeminent liberal arts college. Students are enrolled in undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Music in performance, jazz studies, composition, technology in music and related arts, recording arts and production, music theater, and musicology.Oberlin also offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Music in conducting, the Master of Music in performance on historical instruments, the Master of Fine Arts in piano technology, and artist diplomas.ResponsibilitiesDirect mainstage operasTeach opera workshop classes, in collaboration with music director/pianistTeach seminar in opera directing and/or other opera courses as expertise and interest allowOversee opera budget, in collaboration with the conservatory finance managerCoordinate design process and all production personnel for the mainstage operas, in collaboration with the theater departmentCoordinate mainstage repertoire selection process, in collaboration with voice faculty, opera staff and theater personnelQualificationsOutstanding record of professional experience as an opera directorAdvanced degree in opera theater, theater, or equivalent experienceExperience as a lyric theater director or equivalent performance experience; musical and linguistic expertisePractical knowledge of theater technologyExperience teaching acting and/or movement to singersDemonstrated success in working effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff and studentsQuick Link for PostingCompensationOberlin College offers a competitive compensation package with excellent benefits.Special Instructions to ApplicantsReview of applications will begin on October 2, 2026 and continue until the position is filled.
