In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments and medical equipment. Your work behind the scenes plays a vital role in ensuring a safe environment for patients and healthcare providers. Central Sterile Technician Key Responsibilities:
- Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and trays.
- Operate autoclaves, washers, and other sterilization equipment in accordance with protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and equipment maintenance.
- Ensure timely distribution of sterile supplies to operating rooms and clinical units.
- Monitor inventory and restock supplies in sterile processing areas.
- Adhere to infection control standards and hospital policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with surgical and nursing staff to ensure timely and accurate instrument availability.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Central Sterile Processing program preferred.
- Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through IAHCSMM or CBSPD preferred or obtained within 12 months of hire.
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control, and instrument care.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
