Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Stable, AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: L&D, PP, and circulating experience required; triage experience strongly preferred Description: Unit has 10 Labor and Delivery beds. There are 2 OR suites on the unit for C-sections. Labor and Delivery RNs would circulate. The unit has 4 triage beds and 10 postpartum beds. The unit averages about 120 births per month. AWHONN standards are followed for ratios, primarily 1:1 in Labor and Delivery and 1:6 couple care in Postpartum. Common diagnoses include laboring patients 32 weeks and greater, elective induction of labor, medical induction of labor, stable antepartum patients, postpartum patients, and well newborns. RNs are required to titrate drips, primarily Pitocin per protocol. Common titratable or set-rate drips include mag and, rarely, insulin. There is a Charge RN, Resource RN, and House Supervisor on each shift. The Charge RN and Resource RN do not have an assignment. CNA support is available for the floor on 4-5 days and nights per week. Unit clerk services are available 24/7. An OB hospitalist is in-house 24/7, with midwives always on call. A neonatal NP is available 24/7, and a Neonatologist is on call, available within 15 minutes. CRNA anesthesia services are in-house 24/7. The unit does not have Tele/Monitor Techs. The EFM system utilized is GE Connect. Shifts are typically 12 hours, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Staff cannot work more than five shifts in a row per hospital policy. Traveler schedule requests outside of approved time off will be accommodated when possible. Weekend and holiday requirements are based on unit needs. There is no call or standby requirement. Staff are required to float to similar units within the valley, with notice provided prior to the shift. True floating to a separate location is rare. Blue scrubs will be provided on the unit. Custom orientation is based on experience, typically 4-6 shifts. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required. The care setting is acute. This position requires a license to work.
