Regulatory Engineer Location: Northeastern US (PA/WV/NY/OH/KY). Overview Sandvik Mining seeks a Regulatory Engineer to support design, development, and compliance of underground mechanical cutting machines, ensuring adherence to MSHA regulations and customer safety. Responsibilities Expert on MSHA underground coal regulation (30 CFR) and state/local regulations for underground coal mining equipment. Communicate technical drawing revisions clearly with cross‑functional teams (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic). Communicate technical information and drawings with approval groups such as MSHA and state agencies. Provide support with technical training and the Sandvik service network on proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting practices. Provide support to end users, operators, and service personnel for complex technical issues. Work with factory to provide technical support and guidance for USA MSHA underground coal applications. Prepare failure reports and analysis for components and assemblies, both electrical and mechanical. Assist in compiling accurate data and engineering analysis. Review spare parts recommendations and develop accuracy of Machine Life Operating Costs (MLOC). Assist factories with field testing and trials of new products and updated components to ensure proper and safe operation. Develop test plans for field/shop testing of new products/designs. Plan for correct tools and parts required to perform tasks according to all work procedures. Support commissioning of products, including pre‑delivery inspections and hot commissioning (operational and at customer site). Work with customers and factories to develop solutions to equipment‑related challenges. Assist customers and co‑workers with parts interpretations and recommended stock holdings. Develop customer relationships to ensure customers have positive experience and remain loyal to the Sandvik brand. Assist sales in evaluation of potential applications and machine options. Comply with safety policies and applicable government, customer, or industry regulations or requirements. Identify and report any unsafe work habits. Strive to find safer ways for customers to work with Sandvik’s products. Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with company values and current policies and procedures. Take responsibility for personal development and enhancement of skills. Proactively ensure community involvement within the area of responsibility. Qualifications Minimum of 4 years of technical experience in underground mining. Mechanical or electrical engineering degree, or equivalent experience. Knowledge of underground mining aspects. Valid driver’s license. Professional Engineer (PE) certification. Valid passport. Ability to work underground and travel as required. Knowledge of German is an asset. Ability to work in a team environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in CAD (2D and 3D) and ability to read, understand, and create electrical and hydraulic schematics. Flexible, self‑motivated, and driven to achieve customer satisfaction goals and targets. Strong investigation and diagnostic skills. Computer literacy. Knowledge of customers’ industry and expertise with the MSHA equipment/component approval process. Compensation Salary range: $107,000 to $135,000 depending on experience.
