Class A CDL Route Driver

Location: San Bernardino, CA

About the Role

The Class A CDL Route Driver is an essential member of our logistics and transportation team. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently collecting, hauling, and delivering food waste and grease-trap material along assigned intra- and interstate routes.

Drivers complete approximately 15–25 stops per day, operate commercial vehicles and specialized equipment, maintain accurate records, and ensure customer locations are left clean and free of debris. This customer-facing role requires professionalism, dependable communication, attention to detail, and strict compliance with all company policies and transportation regulations.

This is a safety-sensitive position requiring sound judgment, attentiveness, and diligence. Each employee is responsible for protecting their own safety and the safety of coworkers, customers, and the public.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely collect, load, haul, and deliver food waste and grease-trap material along company-assigned routes.
• Pump grease traps and properly handle and transport collected material.
• Complete approximately 15–25 customer stops per day based on routes established by the company.
• Operate commercial vehicles and equipment, including combination vehicles with 30- to 45-foot open-top dump trailers.
• Operate manual- and automatic-transmission vehicles in accordance with company policies, DOT requirements, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
• Operate manual or electric pallet jacks as needed.
• Use pressure-washing equipment to rinse bins and containers.
• Ensure customer locations are clean and free of spills, waste, and debris before departure.
• Perform and document thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Use basic hand tools to complete minor repairs to company bins and equipment.
• Maintain basic truck equipment and ensure assigned vehicles and trailers remain clean and orderly.
• Accurately use electronic logging devices for DOT driver logs and other required reporting.
• Complete and submit all required paperwork, including contamination reports, service tickets, inspection records, maintenance documents, and delivery records.
• Communicate professionally with customers and vendors to support efficient, uninterrupted service.
• Maintain regular communication with the operations team and corporate office regarding service, equipment, routing, and customer-related issues.
• Immediately report all accidents, injuries, spills, safety concerns, and equipment damage to the appropriate manager.
• Attend and actively participate in required safety calls, training sessions, meetings, and briefings.
• Use a computer, mobile phone, and company applications for training, communication, documentation, navigation, and expense management.
• Work flexible hours based on operational needs and seasonality, including up to 60 hours within seven days or 70 hours within eight days, as permitted by applicable regulations.
• Accept different route or service assignments as operational needs change, including regional and interstate routes.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
• Tanker endorsement is required.
• Must be self-certified as a Non-Excepted Interstate driver with the state that issued the CDL.
• Clean and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and Pre-Employment Screening Program record.
• Must meet one of the following experience requirements:
  • At least 23 years of age with a minimum of two years of full-time, verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience; or
  • At least 21 years of age with one year of tractor-trailer driving experience and graduation from an approved truck-driving school; or
  • At least 21 years of age with one year of qualifying military driving experience.
• Experience pumping grease traps or operating tanker equipment is strongly preferred.
• Ability to operate manual- and automatic-transmission commercial vehicles.
• Stable and verifiable employment history.
• Ability to satisfy all DOT and company qualification requirements.
• Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal safety instructions.
• Basic ability to operate a computer, smartphone, electronic logging device, and related applications.
• Strong communication, customer-service, and time-management skills.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Regularly lift, push, pull, or carry up to 70 pounds.
• Regularly pull or roll totes weighing up to 300 pounds.
• Frequently bend, stoop, twist, shovel, climb, crouch, and reach overhead.
• Safely enter and exit commercial vehicles throughout the workday.
• Work around food waste, grease-trap material, farms, and potentially unpleasant odors.
• Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, wind, and other changing weather conditions.
• Work around wet, slippery, uneven, or muddy surfaces.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment and follow established safety procedures.
• Remain alert and able to safely perform all essential job duties throughout the assigned shift.
