About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: 2 Years of ER Experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Experience with high acuity patients, proficiency with IVs and drips Description: Working in the Emergency Room. No floating to other units required. The facility will not entertain any schedule changes. There are 18 beds including 3 trauma bays. There is no separate fast track area used. A triage area is available, and travelers may work triage depending on experience. There is no separate holding area; ER holds are intermixed within the ER. ER nurses manage their own holds. There are 2 safety rooms that can be used for psychiatric patients. In-house security is available on weekends, with plans for 24/7 coverage. The average patient volume is 90 per day, but it can peak at 140 during high season. Nurse to patient ratios depend on acuity, typically 1:4-5. Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, back pain, lacerations, influenza, COVID-19, shortness of breath, chest pain, stroke/CVA, psychological issues, motor vehicle accidents, some trauma cases, diabetic ketoacidosis, sickle cell crises, and hypertension. Nurses must be proficient with common ER and critical care drips. Experience from smaller community hospitals is preferred due to higher patient volumes than most Critical Access Hospitals. The EMR system used is T-system. There are MDs and mid-level providers staffed, beginning with 1 MD and an additional mid-level coming in at 11 a.m. A charge nurse is present on every shift and takes a patient assignment. Patient care technicians assist with general duties, vital signs, lab draws, and splinting. Nurses must be able to troubleshoot ventilators, BiPap, Cpap, and other respiratory equipment. Telemetry is available in every room except safety rooms, and nurses are required to read and interpret their own strips. Radiology services are available 24/7 within the facility. Nurses and techs draw labs. Self-scheduling is allowed but requires manager approval. Block scheduling is permitted. Every other weekend and holiday rotation is required. There is no call or standby requirement. Scrub colors should be Caribbean blue with a matching scrub jacket in the same color or white. Unit-specific orientation for new hires consists of 3 shifts. Emphasis is placed on customer service and patient satisfaction. Cancellation policy allows the facility to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract. Travelers may not volunteer to leave shifts or refuse shifts while receiving guaranteed hours.
