About the Position

Total care is provided by RNs with support from a unit secretary and COVID runner. Typical equipment includes ventilators, Alaris IV pumps, balloon pumps, ventriculostomy drains, and glucometers. All staff utilize iMobile phones and technology for effective communication. Personal protective equipment includes masks, face shields, goggles, PAPR, and hoods for COVID-19 patients. The documentation system is Meditech using Evidence Based Clinical Documentation. Nursing shifts are twelve hours from 07:00 to 19:00, with every other weekend required. Holiday requirements apply. Nursing staff may float to other medical-surgical units in the hospital as needed, with priority given to intensive care units. Patient experience requirements include hourly rounding, bedside hand-off reporting, completion of My Care Board during hand-off report, and the use of AIDET focused on compassionate connected care. The unit is certified in multiple areas of excellence and is working toward additional certifications. Required advanced skills include ventilator management, critical care drip knowledge, assessment skills, and knowledge of cardiac, neuro, and respiratory systems. Procedures performed on the unit include intubations, cardioversions, ventriculostomy drain placement and management, IABP management, and continual renal replacement therapy (CRRT). The unit encourages a culture of quality, evidenced by its accolades and recognition in the healthcare community. Staff members are highly tenured and many hold national certifications. Self-scheduling is available within specific guidelines. The unit provides care for ICU COVID-19 patients.
