Sterile Processing Technician - Intermediate

Location: San Antonio, TX

Pay Rate: Starting at $18.00/hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM | No On-Call

Dean's Professional Services is actively seeking a skilled Sterile Processing Technician - Intermediate to support a leading healthcare organization in San Antonio, TX . This role plays a critical part in patient safety by ensuring surgical instruments and medical equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use in clinical procedures.

Responsibilities

- Perform decontamination, cleaning, and disinfection of surgical instruments and medical equipment

- Operate and maintain decontamination equipment including washers, disinfectors, and ultrasonic cleaners

- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage prior to sterilization

- Assemble surgical instrument trays and sets according to established procedures and guidelines

- Package, wrap, and label instruments and supplies for sterilization

- Operate autoclaves and sterilization equipment while monitoring and documenting sterilization cycles

- Maintain accurate records of instrument processing and sterilization activities

- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or discrepancies in sterile supplies

- Ensure proper storage and handling of sterile instruments to prevent contamination

- Follow infection control standards, safety protocols, and quality assurance procedures

- Collaborate with surgical teams, nurses, and clinical staff to ensure instruments are available when needed

- Provide guidance or support to new sterile processing team members when necessary

Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED required

- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with instrument tracking systems

- Sterile processing certification required (CRCST or CBSPD)

- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict sterilization protocols

- Manual dexterity to handle delicate surgical instruments

- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift equipment when necessary

- Strong communication and teamwork skills within a healthcare environment
