Environmental Health Specialist The Southeast Health District is seeking a highly qualified candidate for a full‑time, salaried position based in Appling, Toombs, or Wayne Counties in Southeast Georgia. Job Responsibilities Under direct supervision, perform Environmental Health inspections for food service establishments, individual on‑site sewage management systems, and tourist accommodations. Perform public services such as water sampling, institutional evaluations, complaint investigations, rabies control, swimming‑pool evaluations, and other related activities. Provide Environmental Health education and technical assistance to the general public, regulated community, and officials. Handle office duties within the Environmental Health section including telephone conversations, person‑to‑person contacts, correspondence, and filing duties. Interpret local, state, and federal Environmental Health laws and regulations. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences such as chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health Services. Level I Inspector’s Certification for On‑Site Sewage Management Systems. Successful completion of the GA Environmental Health “Soils Course” and receipt of Level II Inspector’s Certification. Additional Information Employees are encouraged to incorporate regular wellness activities. Designated wellness breaks up to 30 minutes per workday are authorized. They may be taken as two 15‑minute breaks or one 30‑minute break. Employment Information Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board salary rules. SEHD accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the U.S. Department of Education. The selected candidate may be subject to pre‑employment drug screening and a criminal background check.
