Position Overview We are seeking a full-time Senior Mental Health Counselor, specializing in geriatric care, to join our dedicated team at the Royal Psychological Wellness Center. This role is designed for licensed professionals who are passionate about enhancing the mental health landscape for elderly individuals, particularly those dealing with issues like depression, anxiety, dementia-related disorders, and the adjustments that come with aging. About the Organization At the Royal Psychological Wellness Center located in Fremont, California, we are committed to providing specialized mental health care tailored to the geriatric population. Our experienced team of geriatric psychiatrists and mental health professionals collaborates to create a supportive and healing environment for our patients. Work Environment This position will be primarily remote, allowing you to create a comfortable work-life balance while still having the opportunity to participate in outpatient care when necessary. Our practice operates in a flexible, supportive environment where mental health professionals work collaboratively to provide the best outcomes for our patients. While typical working hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, occasional evening shifts may be required based on patient needs. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments tailored to the unique psychological and physical needs of older adults, focusing on factors such as cognitive decline, physical health, and social circumstances. Design and implement personalized treatment plans that incorporate evidence-based therapeutic modalities, ensuring an individualized approach for each client. Provide both individual and family therapy, delivering compassionate support while addressing complex geriatric psychiatric conditions. Collaborate closely with geriatric psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals, ensuring an integrated and holistic approach to patient care. Offer immediate support and crisis intervention during mental health emergencies involving elderly patients, coordinating care effectively with emergency response systems. Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions, treatment methodologies, and available community resources to empower them in their journeys toward recovery. Maintain meticulous documentation of patient assessments, treatments, and progress, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards. Actively engage in team meetings and case consultations to contribute insights and share knowledge that drives the team's overall effectiveness. Stay informed on the latest advancements and best practices in the field of geriatric psychiatry, integrating new strategies into your practice. Patient Population / Client Focus This role focuses on elderly patients who experience a variety of mental health challenges. You will work with individuals facing age-related issues, cognitive impairments, mood disorders, and the emotional difficulties that can accompany significant life transitions and losses. Your expertise will play a crucial role in improving their quality of life and supporting their families throughout the therapeutic process. Qualifications A Master's or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited program. Current and valid licensure as an LCSW, LPCC, or LMFT in California is required. A minimum of two years of post-licensure experience in a clinical setting, particularly with geriatric populations, is preferred. In-depth knowledge of geriatric mental health disorders, along with expertise in evidence-based treatment modalities and interventions. Demonstrable experience in providing individual and family therapy to older adults. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on patient-centered, empathetic engagement. The ability to build rapport and trust with elderly patients and their families is critical. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and applicable computer applications. A strong commitment to teamwork and collaborative practice within a multidisciplinary environment. Preferred Experience Experience in crisis intervention and crisis management techniques specific to the elderly population is highly desirable. A background in educational activities or community outreach related to mental health awareness among older adults.
