Maintenance Planner

The Maintenance Planner oversees the planning, scheduling, and documentation of maintenance activities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of equipment and facilities. This role develops detailed job plans, coordinates resources, and uses maintenance planning software and CMMS systems to optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs while minimizing downtime and supporting production needs.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, with a strong focus on safety and the proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure that safety considerations are incorporated into all job plans and maintenance activities.
  • Review incoming work requests and work orders for accuracy, clarity, and completeness before planning.
  • Define the full scope of work for each job, including required skills, permits, constraints, and resource needs.
  • Conduct site visits as needed to clarify job details, verify field conditions, and refine job plans.
  • Create detailed task steps, including parts and tool requirements, safety assessments, and work instructions.
  • Develop daily and weekly maintenance schedules that align with production requirements and resource availability.
  • Lead or participate in weekly meetings with key stakeholders to review, communicate, and adjust maintenance schedules.
  • Utilize the CMMS for all maintenance planning, scheduling, documentation, and work order processing.
  • Prioritize maintenance work based on equipment criticality, safety considerations, backlog, and business needs, sequencing tasks to minimize downtime.
  • Obtain and organize all necessary technical information, including OEM drawings, vendor manuals, special procedures, and diagrams to support maintenance execution.
  • Review and process completed work orders, capturing comments, variances, and feedback, and verifying completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare requisitions in the CMMS to ensure materials, parts, labor, and other charges are correctly allocated to the appropriate work orders.
  • Verify that all materials, information, tools, and labor are available and ready before scheduling work.
  • Collaborate closely with the storeroom clerk to confirm inventory levels, manage inventory spending, and support parts availability.
  • Analyze maintenance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in maintenance methodologies.
  • Recommend and help develop specialized programs to enhance preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Carry out leadership responsibilities in line with company policies and applicable laws, ensuring subordinate supervisors provide effective leadership to their teams.
  • Gather and record necessary information related to maintenance activities, follow through on assigned tasks, and identify problem areas.
  • Take timely corrective action to address issues, meet deadlines, and maintain performance in high-pressure situations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management staff, contributing to a collaborative work environment.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing or similar environment (preferred).
  • Proven history of inventory management, including budgeting, forecasting, and use of CMMS systems.
  • Hands-on experience with maintenance planning software and CMMS for work orders, scheduling, and documentation.
  • Strong background in preventive and predictive maintenance planning.
  • Proficiency with ERP and MRP systems related to maintenance, production, and supply chain processes.
  • Solid understanding of production planning and maintenance scheduling in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to review and interpret OEM drawings, vendor manuals, special procedures, and technical diagrams.
  • High level of reliability and accountability in managing maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management.
  • Capability to gather, record, and analyze maintenance information to support decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problem areas and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform well in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • High attention to detail and strong planning and organizational skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience using SAP or similar ERP systems for maintenance and production planning.
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms and maintenance documentation best practices.
  • Knowledge of supply chain principles related to parts procurement and inventory control.
  • Background in production environments, including manufacturing, construction, or electrical settings.
  • Experience with work order management and maintenance documentation processes.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and G Suite for reporting, planning, and communication.
  • Comfort working with maintenance planning software, ERP systems, and MRP tools.
  • Understanding of maintenance scheduling techniques and optimization strategies.
  • Ability to support leadership responsibilities and provide guidance to subordinate supervisors.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to support continuous improvement in maintenance programs.

Work Environment

This role operates across office, manufacturing, and warehouse settings, providing exposure to both planning activities and the production floor. The environment can involve hot and cold temperatures, wet and humid conditions, loud noises, moving mechanical parts, and occasional work in high, precarious places. There may be exposure to fumes or airborne particles, as well as the risk of electrical shock and vibration. The position supports a fast-paced, highly productive operation and requires tolerance for repetitive work and changing priorities. Work may occasionally extend beyond regular business hours to meet operational demands. The role is primarily on 1st shift.

This is a Permanent position based out of Franklin, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $95000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
