Area Health Information Specialist I Location: 7090 St. George, UT (Onsite, with coverage in Cedar City as needed). Full-time (Mon-Fri 8:00‑4:30 pm). 75% or more travel required. Position Summary This role is responsible for processing all releases of information (ROI), specifically medical record requests, in a timely, accurate and compliant manner. The associate safeguards patient privacy, ensures adherence to HIPAA, company policy and site-specific procedures, and delivers high‑quality customer service. The role involves front‑desk processing of medical record requests, both in‑facility and external, with a focus on accuracy, confidentiality and regulatory compliance. Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information. Monitor and maintain working knowledge of company and facility software. Adhere to the company’s code of conduct and customer‑facility policies. Report work status, site difficulties, and fluctuating volumes to management. Assist with additional duties as required, including project teams and committees. Safeguard patient records and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards. Prepare new patient charts, collect documents from paper or electronic sources. Assemble and verify medical records in standard order. Create digital images of paperwork for electronic medical record storage. Respond to internal and external record requests, including outbound communication and outbound calls. Assist with patient walk‑ins, administrative duties such as fax handling, mail opening and data entry. Schedule pick‑ups and assist with training of associates. Generate reports for managers or facilities as directed. Achieve and exceed level 1 productivity expectations. Act in a lead role with staff on general questions, assist new‑hire and developmental training. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 1 year of health information management (HIM) experience. Strong customer‑service and clerical skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word & Excel). Comfortable in a high‑volume production environment. Medical office experience preferred. Ability to work independently, respond to changing priorities, and manage multiple tasks. Detail‑oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Minimum 18 years old; authorized to work in the U.S.; willing to travel locally/regionally 75% of the time. Basic computer proficiency and general office equipment handling. Must meet or exceed company productivity standards. What You’ll Bring to the Table High School Diploma or GED. Eligibility to work in the United States. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and regulatory compliance. Experience working with patient health records and HIPAA‑compliant processes. Empathy and professionalism when interacting with patients and clients. Bonus Points If Production/metric‑based work experience. In‑person customer service experience.
