Location & Work Schedule Geisinger Primary Care, Mountain Top. Shift: Days (United States of America). Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40. Worker Type: Regular. Exemption Status: No. Job Summary Provides direct patient care and clinical support for physicians and other providers in the outpatient setting. Functions as an integral member of the health‑care team under the direction of the provider. Performs clinical duties such as preparing patients, collecting and reviewing pertinent information, performing technical duties, documenting using the electronic medical record, and supporting a safe environment for patients. Provides administrative and clerical support for the clinic/department including patient scheduling, filing reports, and following up on documentation, phone calls, and billing inquiries. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited 1‑year certificate or 2‑year diploma Medical Assistant program preferred. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required. Certified by one of the following associations required: NHA , AMT , AAMA , NAHP , NCCT , AAH , or AMCA . Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Minimum of 1 year related work experience preferred. Job Duties Obtain and document, using the rooming tool in the electronic medical record, the patient’s reason for visit, weight, vital signs, visit screening information, medication review, and pertinent information for provider. Set up examination and treatment rooms between cases. Assist patient as needed to prepare for visit with provider, ensuring safety and privacy. Provide direct patient care as directed by provider based on competency and clinic needs, including performing EKGs, wound dressings, and supporting minor surgical procedures and ancillary examinations. Prepare and administer medications according to policy and procedure after validation of knowledge and demonstration of competency. (May not administer intravenous medications.) Complete patient tests and treatments per provider’s order according to policy after validation of competency. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and complete associated paperwork accurately to expedite laboratory studies. Perform phlebotomy and assist in specific laboratory functions as overseen by the laboratory. Perform receptionist and clerical duties to support patient care and clinic functioning, including matching and filing ancillary reports and other medical reports in medical records. Document in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record. Use the electronic medical record and scheduling system as designated. Facilitate timely appointments for patients. Complete referrals and pre‑authorizations as needed.Collect co‑payments. Assist with orientation of new personnel under the direction of provider and/or site lead. Execute and document ongoing patient communication, prioritizing communications to the provider and responding to patient questions to ensure timely response to patient needs. Reinforce patient education as directed by provider to support patient understanding of instructions. Inventory medical/surgical supplies and non‑controlled pharmaceuticals to ensure adequate supply levels, verify expiration dates, and document utilization. Prepare and clean instruments, following sterilization and disinfection protocols. Clean/set up examination rooms between patients using infection prevention protocols and hand hygiene. Routinely inspect diagnostic equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and identify preventive or corrective maintenance needs. Participate actively in patient safety and quality improvement program. Operate in a clinical environment; travel may be required. Comply with all organization policies and procedures.
