Drug and Alcohol Counselor

Job Description Job Description Under the direction of the IFS Drug & Alcohol Program Facility Director, and guidance of a clinical supervisor, provides drug & alcohol assessments, individual, group, and family therapy in an outpatient and intensive outpatient setting for drug and alcohol treatment services. The IFS Drug & Alcohol Counselor will work within a treatment team format with other IFS Drug & Alcohol Counselors and IFS support staff under the direction of the IFS Facility Director and guidance of a clinical supervisor. Conduct thorough intake assessments and diagnostic evaluations to determine client needs and develop personalized treatment plans. Provide individual and group counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy techniques. Implement crisis intervention strategies to address urgent mental health or substance use issues, ensuring client safety and stabilization. Maintain accurate medical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA and CFR Part 2 regulations. Facilitate group therapy 1-2 nights per week from 4-7pm while ensuring a therapeutic atmosphere and compliant documentation. Must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing or other related field. Preferred experience in outpatient addiction counseling or behavioral health settings with a focus on substance use disorders. Preferred Pennsylvania Certification Board certified counselor (AAC, CADC, CAADC) Preferred background in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, crisis management, and case management.
