Job Title: Level 2 Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12.5 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Medical-Surgical nursing, 1 year of travel nursing experience required. License: Unencumbered Ohio Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS certification through the American Heart Association required Must-Have: - Minimum of 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience - Minimum of 1 year of travel experience - High acuity unit, mentor/charge experience required - Ability to arrive within 1 hour if called in for on-call duties - 36 hours not guaranteed - Willingness to work weekends and holidays - Participation in on-call duties as per unit needs Description: The registered nurse is responsible for patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, and collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams. The nurse will manage patients' needs throughout their hospitalization, focusing on recovery, education, and overall well-being. A significant majority of patients in this unit are Medical-Surgical with low volume oncology patients. Oncology patients will be cared for by core staff rather than travelers. Key Responsibilities include: Conducting comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and psychological health upon admission and throughout their hospital stay. Developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. Monitoring patient progress and making adjustments to care plans as needed based on changing conditions or responses to treatment. Administering prescribed medications and treatments accurately, including oral, intravenous, and injectable medications. Monitoring and assessing patient responses to medications and treatments, reporting any adverse reactions or concerns. Performing tasks such as wound care, dressing changes, and managing drains or tubes as required by the patient's condition. Monitoring patients' vital signs including heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature. Documenting all patient assessments, interventions, medications, treatments, and outcomes in accordance with hospital policies. Identifying and reporting any changes in patient status or complications, ensuring timely interventions are provided. Working collaboratively with physicians, specialists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to deliver holistic patient care. Participating in daily rounds and providing updates on patient status. Communicating effectively with patients and families regarding care plans, treatment options, and progress. Educating patients and their families on managing conditions, understanding procedures, and preparing for discharge. Providing guidance on post-hospital care, including lifestyle modifications, medication instructions, and follow-up appointments. Offering emotional support and counseling to patients and families to address concerns and alleviate anxiety. Monitoring patients recovering from surgery, assessing for complications such as infection and bleeding. Providing post-operative care including pain management, wound care, and supporting early mobilization. Ensuring that patients are educated on managing their recovery at home. Ensuring patient safety by following hospital protocols for infection control and fall prevention. Maintaining a sterile environment when performing medical procedures and using proper personal protective equipment. Following policies related to medication administration, equipment usage, and patient confidentiality. Recognizing and responding to emergencies such as sudden changes in patient status and providing immediate care. Performing life-saving interventions as needed. Qualifications include: A valid state nursing license as a Registered Nurse. Previous experience in a medical-surgical setting for a minimum of 1 year. Experience with a variety of medical conditions, surgical procedures, and patient care needs is beneficial. Strong clinical knowledge and nursing skills, particularly in patient assessment, medication administration, and wound care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with a variety of individuals. Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced hospital environment. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address patient concerns. A compassionate, patient-focused approach to nursing care. Working Conditions: Nurses work in hospital medical-surgical units, including both acute and subacute care settings. Shifts may include weekends and holidays. The role involves standing, walking, lifting, and assisting patients with mobility. There is potential for exposure to infectious diseases, requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment.
