This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Underground Transmission Line Engineer 1 - Grid based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to design and deliver complex underground transmission solutions that support the modernization and reliability of energy infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will apply advanced engineering expertise to projects involving high-voltage underground transmission systems, from initial design through construction support.
You will contribute to routing studies, electrical analysis, physical design, specifications, and coordination with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
This position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage engineering challenges within schedule and budget constraints.
You will help shape innovative grid solutions while collaborating with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders on impactful infrastructure projects.
This is a remote full-time opportunity for an experienced transmission engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and leading engineering initiatives.

Accountabilities:

• Design underground transmission line systems for voltages up to 500kV, including routing, duct bank configurations, and overall system layouts.
• Perform cost analyses, develop design criteria, address siting challenges, and determine optimal placement of underground infrastructure components such as manholes.
• Develop physical designs, including duct bank layouts, trenchless installation designs, cable pulling calculations, and detailed engineering drawing packages.
• Conduct cable selection studies, ampacity calculations, and bonding scheme evaluations to support reliable transmission system designs.
• Develop riser structure configurations and evaluate structural loading requirements.
• Prepare technical specifications for cable procurement, duct bank installation, trenchless construction, and related project requirements.
• Coordinate with vendors, clients, and internal teams to define transmission line components and ensure project alignment.
• Lead and support small project teams consisting of engineers, designers, and technical staff.
• Apply engineering standards, industry recommendations, and modern tools to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
• Support the use of automation and AI-enabled engineering tools by guiding teams in adopting efficient processes while maintaining quality control.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience contributing to project teams on diverse underground transmission projects while managing schedules and budget requirements.
• Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling and cable tensioning calculations or related software.
• Experience with XLPE cable design and underground transmission line engineering.
• Knowledge of cable systems, bonding schemes, ampacity calculations, and underground transmission design practices.
• Experience developing cost estimates, project schedules, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Ability to review right-of-way requirements, plan and profile drawings, and construction documents.
• Strong understanding of engineering design principles, technical drawings, models, and calculation documentation.
• Familiarity with applicable standards and codes, including NESC, EPRI Green Book, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, and ACI 318.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one within one year is preferred.
• Experience with high-pressure gas-filled or high-pressure fluid-filled cable systems, underground distribution systems, or low-voltage cable systems is a plus.
