Salary range for this position is $17.67 - $22.97 hourly. Placement within the range depends on experience and internal equity. This role provides an opportunity to develop clinical, communication and teamwork skills while fostering relationships across Northwestern Medicine’s West Region. Responsibilities Perform basic nursing care activities delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, weights, and recording intake and output. Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, such as bathing, grooming and eating. Assist patients with application of assistive devices and prosthetics/orthoses according to individual patient programs. Perform preventive skin‑care programs as directed by RN and report any changes in skin integrity immediately. Assist patients with transfers and mobility activities using appropriate techniques, precautions and assistive devices. Assist patients with bladder and bowel elimination programs, including collection of laboratory specimens. Perform 12‑lead EKG as ordered. Assist patients with completing menus daily within established timeframes. Pass patient meal trays and health‑system snacks under the direction of the nurse. Participate in patient rounding by circulating on nursing units to monitor patients. Provide de‑escalation techniques for agitated and aggressive patient behaviors. Maintain and organize unit equipment inventories. Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Assist with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly. Demonstrate flexibility, organization and multitasking; function effectively under stressful situations. Utilize critical‑thinking skills to prioritize and complete unit work quickly in response to changing unit needs. Serve as liaison between patient‑care units and all other patient‑related departments. Answer telephone, intercom and call lights politely using appropriate telephone etiquette and communicate information to appropriate staff, family or patient. Manage overall unit workflow in concert with the charge RN and/or assistant manager on an as‑needed basis. Perform pre‑census and validate daily admission, discharge and census lists on an as‑needed basis. Qualifications Required: High School Diploma or equivalent. Nursing students who have completed one clinical rotation. Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing school students with one semester of clinical completed. CPR – Basic Life Support. Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program.
