Shift Supervisor

The APEX Power Co. Project in Hubbard, TX, currently under Phase 1 construction, is expected to expand to 1.6 GW. It features a diverse mix of generation technologies, including Siemens SGT-800/400 simple cycle turbines, MAN/Everllence 18V51/60G gas reciprocating engines, GE LM6000/LM2500 simple cycle turbines, Pratt & Whitney FT8 simple cycle turbines, and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), enabling flexible, reliable power output. Future expansion may include additional GE aero and large frame units (6B, 7FA/7FB/7H) in simple or combined cycle configurations, allowing the plant to efficiently meet varying energy demands while supporting data center grid reliability.

Opportunity Summary

The Shift Supervisor ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable production of steam and electricity during their shift, while also serving as the senior-most individual on duty. In addition to performing Control Room Operator duties, they oversee plant operations, material handling, and coordination of maintenance and engineering activities. They are responsible for enforcing safety protocols, maintaining compliance with operational standards, and making critical real-time decisions to protect personnel and equipment. This role is essential to sustaining plant reliability, managing emergencies, and ensuring operational continuity.

As Shift Supervisor, your responsibilities specific to the Pre-Commissioning Phase include:

• Assist with oversight of pre-commissioning shift operations, coordinating system testing, startup activities, procedure validation, and commissioning efforts to support the safe transition from EPC to commercial operations.
• Supervise and guide Control Room Operators (CROs) and O&M Technicians, coordinating field activities, system testing, and startup readiness.
• Coordinate with EPC contractors, OEMs, and engineering teams to execute safe and efficient system testing and equipment turnover activities.
• Participate in system walkdowns, turnover inspections, PSSRs, first-fire events, synchronization, and performance testing to verify operational readiness.
• Support validation of operating procedures, alarm responses, switching orders, and emergency procedures by confirming field conditions and operational accuracy.
• Participate in DCS and HMI validation, including alarm testing, control logic verification, and operator interface testing.
• Verify system readiness and commissioning documentation, including equipment labeling, tagging, lockout/tagout, and startup records for handover to Operations.

Your scope of responsibility as Shift Supervisor includes the following primary functions:

• Provide oversight and direct supervision of station operations, including startup and shutdown of main plant components and auxiliaries, while performing Control Room Operator duties as needed.
• Ensure site safety requirements and procedures are implemented and consistently followed, address hazards, and conduct periodic plant tours to verify compliance.
• Serve as the primary system representative for assigned systems and maintain accurate logs and reports on system performance, downtime, outages, repairs, and production indices.
• Review routine chemistry results, coordinate corrective actions, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance, including electrical and mechanical inspections and troubleshooting, to ensure equipment reliability and operational readiness.
• Monitor consumption of chemicals, gases, fuels, water, and other consumables, maintain inventories, and ensure timely replenishment.
• Ensure proper switching, isolation, and tagging of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and industry best practices, and write, review, and revise operating procedures to support safe and compliant plant operations.
• Provide guidance and support to shift operations by coaching personnel and assisting with the orientation, training, and qualification of O&M Technicians, including the development of lesson plans, training materials, and qualification standards.
• Assist with recruiting, screening, interviewing, and selecting candidates while maintaining required personnel and operational records.
• Support Administration, Engineering, and Maintenance activities and serve as a professional representative of the company with customers, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, reliable, and compliant plant operations.

Working Relationships

The Shift Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager and receives general direction from the Plant Manager. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for directing and overseeing operations personnel and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant and its related processes.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The Shift Supervisor works a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, alternating between days and nights to support continuous 24/7 operations and ensure seamless shift transitions. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required.

Compensation

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $53.26 to $65.10 per hour, along with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Operational Expertise and Qualifications

We are looking for a results-oriented supervisor with experience in the operations and maintenance of power generating facilities, coupled with a track record of leadership, career development, and operational success.

• Associate degree in engineering, power plant technology, or a related technical field is preferred to provide a strong technical foundation. Equivalent industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
• Demonstrated leadership in power plant operations with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and efficiency; experience with aero-derivative and large-frame gas turbines, reciprocating engines, and BESS preferred.
• Proven Control Room Operator (CRO) experience with expertise in real-time plant monitoring, alarm response, and maintaining safe, reliable operations; current or previous CRO qualification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of power plant mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, including safety procedures, emergency response, and regulatory compliance (including NERC and environmental requirements).
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining power plant equipment, including valves, switches, motors, generators, and auxiliary systems, with knowledge of water treatment, chemical handling, and condition monitoring.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation, including mechanical and electrical drawings, P&IDs, and single-line diagrams, and to write, review, and revise operating procedures supporting regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to direct personnel, communicate operational status, and collaborate effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
