Assembly Supervisor
Insight Global
Leads day-to-day execution of modular data-center integration and assembly operations. The Supervisor is accountable for safe execution, staffing and work assignment, schedule attainment, quality performance, material readiness, constraint recovery, employee development, and disciplined use of the site daily-management system. This role converts the production plan into executable shift priorities, coaches Leads and technicians, coordinates support from Quality, Engineering, Warehouse/Material Planning, Training, EHS, Maintenance, and Test, and ensures abnormalities are contained, documented, escalated, and driven to closure. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead assigned Integration / Assembly shift activities from pre-shift readiness through shift handoff, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, cost, people, and documentation priorities are understood and controlled. Review the daily/weekly build plan, work-order readiness, staffing, skills coverage, material/kitting status, tooling, released drawings/work instructions, quality gates, test requirements, and known constraints before work is released. Translate the production schedule into clear work assignments by unit, zone, station, or workstream and balance labor as priorities, constraints, and actual performance change. Direct and support assembly workstreams that may include busway, chilled-water headers/piping, fire suppression, electrical rough-in, wire/cable installation, grounding/bonding, smoke detection/controls, lighting, roof/enclosure panels, general mechanical assembly, and related integration tasks as released by Engineering. Conduct shift-start and recurring floor huddles using the Area Board and approved operating-system tools; communicate targets, safety/quality alerts, staffing, material readiness, WIP status, constraints, and recovery actions. Maintain plan-versus-actual visibility throughout the shift. Identify misses early, establish containment/recovery actions, assign owners and due times, and escalate unresolved issues through the defined 15-minute escalation path. Own Supervisor-level action tracking and ensure significant constraints are recorded in the correct Constraint, Action, Quality, Material, NCR/Hold, or other controlled log rather than maintained through informal side lists. Coach the Integration Lead in first-level floor control, work assignment, abnormality recognition, escalation, training support, 5S, and hourly status management. Ensure employees perform only work for which they are trained, qualified, and authorized. Review the department skills matrix and coordinate cross-training priorities with Leads and the Training team. Develop or approve employee training plans with the Lead/Training team and ensure qualification evidence is captured as employees progress through the site's Level 0–4 skills system. Verify compliance with released drawings, BOMs, travelers, work instructions, torque requirements, inspection criteria, test requirements, revision control, and approved deviations. Partner with Quality to maintain in-process gates, defect containment, first-pass-yield visibility, NCR/hold control, rework verification, and prevention of known defects from moving downstream. Partner with Manufacturing/Process Engineering on first-build learning, work sequence, time studies, labor-content validation, tooling/fixture needs, work-instruction development, ergonomic improvements, and process stabilization. Partner with Electrical/Test Engineering and Test personnel on technical questions, test readiness, troubleshooting, failure escalation, and controlled disposition of technical issues. Partner with Warehouse, Material Handling, and Material Planning on kit readiness, point-of-use replenishment, shortages, WIP movement, material identification, and recovery of material constraints. Ensure required controlled-torque, inspection, traveler, production, training, test, and traceability records are complete, accurate, and timely. Respond to safety hazards, quality escapes, stopped constraints, repeated failures, equipment issues, or other significant abnormalities; stop work when required and engage EHS, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, or leadership at the appropriate level. Monitor labor utilization, attendance, overtime, productivity, schedule attainment, first-pass yield, rework, downtime/constraint loss, training coverage, and other assigned KPIs; explain significant gaps and execute recovery actions. Conduct routine Gemba walks and Leader Standard Work checks to verify actual conditions, standard-work adherence, material flow, WIP, 5S, safety controls, quality status, and employee support needs. Lead structured problem solving for recurring operational issues using basic RCA, 5-Why, Pareto, or other approved methods; ensure countermeasures have owners, due dates, and effectiveness checks. Support new-product/startup readiness reviews and prevent work release when critical prerequisites such as drawings, BOM/material, tooling, quality criteria, test requirements, or trained labor are not adequately controlled. Conduct coaching, performance feedback, attendance/accountability conversations, recognition, and employee development in accordance with company and HR practices. Complete effective shift handoff covering safety/quality alerts, WIP, plan versus actual, open constraints, shortages, holds, staffing, equipment status, priority units, and actions requiring follow-up. Promote a culture of early escalation, respect, accountability, standard work, cross-functional teamwork, continuous improvement, and no-defect-forward execution. Front-line manufacturing supervision in assembly, integration, electrical/mechanical production, modular construction, industrial equipment, or comparable complex manufacturing Daily management systems, Area Boards, Leader Standard Work, tiered escalation, constraint/action logs, and plan-versus-actual control Production scheduling, labor balancing, WIP control, takt/cycle-time concepts, bottleneck identification, and basic capacity/labor-content analysis Reading and controlling work to released drawings, BOMs, travelers, work instructions, inspection plans, and revision/change-control requirements Mechanical/electrical assembly fundamentals sufficient to recognize abnormal conditions and engage the correct technical resource Quality gates, defect containment, FPY, NCR/hold/rework processes, self-inspection, and prevention of defect escape Material readiness, kitting, point-of-use replenishment, shortage escalation, inventory/WIP traceability, and ERP/work-order discipline Structured problem solving, 5-Why/basic RCA, corrective-action ownership, and effectiveness verification Training matrices, qualification systems, cross-training strategy, OJT oversight, and trainer-depth planning Basic KPI interpretation including safety, quality, delivery, productivity/labor efficiency, downtime, rework, schedule attainment, and training coverage. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED or equivalent practical experience; associate or bachelor's degree in operations, manufacturing, engineering technology, business, or related field is preferred but not required where experience is sufficient. Typically 3+ years of manufacturing, assembly, integration, construction/manufacturing, or industrial operations experience, including demonstrated lead or supervisory responsibility. Demonstrated ability to direct multiple employees/work fronts, set priorities, coach performance, and maintain accountability in a changing production environment. Ability to read or learn technical drawings, BOMs, work instructions, travelers, quality requirements, and production schedules. Working knowledge of safety, quality, material flow, production control, escalation, and basic problem-solving practices. Ability to use standard business/production systems such as Excel, ERP/MRP tools, electronic work instructions, KPI dashboards, and controlled-document systems after training. Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to coordinate Operations, Engineering, Quality, Warehouse/Supply Chain, Training, EHS, Test, and Maintenance. Ability to work the assigned shift and support startup/ramp needs, including schedule changes or overtime when required by approved business needs. Preferred Qualifications Experience supervising modular data-center, electrical/mechanical integration, industrial equipment, skid/module, switchgear, HVAC/piping, controls, or other engineered-to-order assembly. Lean manufacturing / Lean Six Sigma training, daily-management-system experience, 5S, standard work, visual management, or structured problem-solving experience. Experience launching a new production line, facility, product, or major manufacturing ramp where drawings, work instructions, labor standards, and training systems were still being matured. Experience with controlled torque, electrical/mechanical quality gates, functional testing, traceability, NCR/rework, and first-pass-yield improvement. OSHA 10/30 General Industry, MSSC CPT, manufacturing leadership coursework, or comparable industry credentials. #J-18808-Ljbffr Insight Global
