Medical-Surgical Nursing Job Details Specialty: Medical-Surgical Nursing Unit: Clinical Observation Unit Location: Lynchburg, Virginia Assignment Length: 13 weeks Start Date: November 16, 2026 Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,860–$1,960 Schedule: 36 hours per week Shift: 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. Weekend Requirement: Two to three weekends per month based on unit needs Holiday Requirement: Work at least one major holiday, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day Float Requirement: No floating required Candidate Types: Travel nurses and local candidates may be considered Registered Nurse Job Requirements Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Virginia At least 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse experience Previous travel nursing experience required Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and time-management skills Ability to work effectively in a teaching-hospital environment and support nursing students and new team members Complete work history required; employment gaps longer than 90 days must be explained Skills checklist and verification of nursing licensure required during submission Flexibility to accept limited requested time off and meet weekend and holiday scheduling needs Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Responsibilities Provide safe, efficient, and compassionate nursing care to patients in a Clinical Observation Unit setting Manage an approximate patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:6 while maintaining quality patient care Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, monitor patient status, and promptly communicate changes Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established standards and provider orders Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to support positive patient outcomes Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge planning Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record Contribute to a positive learning environment when working with nursing students and newly hired staff Accept charge nurse responsibilities when needed after appropriate training Why Work in Lynchburg, Virginia?
