Middle School 7th Grade ELA + Social Studies Teacher

Starting Date: Aug 10, 2026 Job Title 7th Grade Language Arts & Social Studies Teacher (Des Moines Public Schools, 26-27 school year) Responsibilities Basic function: responsible for planning and delivering a high‑quality educational program to meet children’s academic and social‑emotional needs. Deliver daily lessons aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth. Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social‑emotional needs of students. Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments. Monitor student learning on a daily basis. Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction. Communicate with families on a regular basis. Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards. Participate in professional development. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis. Maintain confidentiality. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees. Assist with other duties as may be assigned. Qualifications Valid Iowa teaching license with appropriate endorsement for 7th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies. Knowledge of subject matter, curriculum, and effective teaching methods. Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication. Previous classroom teaching experience. Experience in an urban school district. Desire to obtain conditional licensure and willingness to obtain a conditional license will also be considered. Physical Requirements Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying. Working Conditions Mostly indoors with some outdoor responsibilities during recess and arrival/dismissal.
