Position Summary The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University (SSVM) is seeking Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Technicians to join our Emergency Service veterinary program at our new veterinary teaching hospital! SSVM is a new and innovative veterinary teaching hospital for small animals, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The teaching hospital is designed to accommodate multiple specialty departments, including anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, dentistry and oral surgery, diagnostic imaging, emergency/critical care, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, primary care, and a full pharmacy with sterile compounding capabilities. These positions will support the clinical services in the veterinary teaching hospital treating patients and educating students. Reporting Structure The Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Technicians will report directly to the Veterinary Technician Manager. Required Qualifications & Salary Information The starting rate for each level is equivalent to the probationary rate listed below based on the collective bargaining unit guidelines. After completion of a six-month probationary period, the employee's pay can increase to the “Job Rate” for that position. Depending on experience, the candidate may be hired at the "Job Rate" to start. Veterinary Technicians (Credentialed, evidence of passing the VTNE) Level 1 Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification eligible or achieved, or equivalent specialty-level expertise Minimum 5 years clinical experience Probationary Rate: $32.25/hour Job Rate: $35.40/hours Max Rate: $38.05/hour Level 2 Minimum 5 years clinical experience Probationary Rate: $28.05/hour Job Rate: $31.00/hour Max Rate: $33.20/hour Level 3 Minimum 3 years clinical experience Probationary Rate: $23.08/hour Job Rate: $26.55/hour Max Rate: $29.97/hour Veterinary Assistants (Non-Credentialed) Level 1 Associate degree or higher Minimum 5 years clinical experience Probationary Rate: $23.08/hour Job Rate: $26.55/hour Max Rate: $29.97/hour Level 2 Associate degree or higher Minimum 3 years clinical experience Probationary Rate: $19.87/hour Job Rate: $22.48/hour Max Rate: $24.86/hour

• Hourly rates reflect each position’s pay post 7/1/25 per the collective bargaining agreement.
• Employees must have 4+ years of applicable experience to be hired above the probationary rate per the collective bargaining agreement.

SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL

Members of the Teamsters negotiations unit will also be eligible for a shift differential of $2.00 per hour. The shift differential will be paid to eligible employees for complete shifts only and provided that they work half or more of their regularly scheduled hours after 3:00 p.m. or before 6:00 a.m. Preferred Qualifications Willing to work flexible hours (days, swing or overnight) and weekends as needed. Willing to assist as needed in other areas or departments within the hospital. Previous experience working in a teaching environment. Previous experience working in an emergency or urgent care veterinary practice. Adaptable to a fast-growing and developing workplace. Excellent understanding of medical terminology, medications, calculations, and common emergency procedures. Excellence and interest in developing interpersonal skills in relation to co-workers, clinicians, students, staff, and clients. Working Conditions Veterinary workers may be exposed to hazards like slips, trips, and falls. They may also be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces and urine. When working with animals that are frightened or in pain, veterinary workers risk being bitten, kicked, or scratched. Veterinary workers may be exposed to hazards like bloodborne pathogens, hazardous drugs, radiation, toxic waste, and chemical hazards such as disinfectants, pesticides, and latex. Animals The types of animals treated at a veterinary hospital can affect the working conditions. Our teaching hospital may consist, but is not limited to, the following types of animals: small mammals, large mammals, livestock, reptiles, avians, and other exotic animals.
