Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stroke Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years in acute care License: Active nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: - Experience with titratable gtts including Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, Levophed - Chest tube management, tracheostomy care, peritoneal dialysis, ISTAT, and CSF (lumbar) drains preferred - Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival Description: This position is for a registered nurse specializing in stroke care. The unit has a total of 12 beds. You will care for patients with CVA/TIA requiring TPA administration and spinal surgical procedures. The patient population includes those with AFIB/RVR, DKA, hypertension, COPD, acute respiratory failure, and post-heart catheterization. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, and there is support from a charge nurse who may also have patient assignments. In-house phlebotomy and IV/VAT teams are available during the day shift. The telemetry monitoring system includes cardiac monitors in each patient room linked to a nurse station. You will be responsible for the primary monitoring and printing of strips for each patient during your shift. Charting is done through an electronic medical record system. You may float to stepdown and med-surg units, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6. The scheduling includes a mandatory weekend rotation and a specific night shift schedule. You may request time off for up to 7 days, with certain conditions. Working on 2 out of 3 holidays per contract period is expected. Scrubs will be in pewter color, and appropriate shirts must feature specified colors. Badges should be worn above the waist in full view at all times. This is a traveler-friendly environment.
