Position Purpose
Coordinates and administers assigned recreation programs, leagues, activities, camps, and special events. The position is responsible for day-to-day program operations, participant services, staff and volunteer coordination, oversight of assigned recreation facilities, and ensuring programs are conducted safely and effectively.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
- Coordinates and administers assigned recreation programs, leagues, activities, camps, tournaments, and special events
- Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates assigned recreation programs and events
- Oversees the day-to-day operation of assigned programs and activities and ensures participants receive quality services and experiences
- Coordinates participant registration and maintains schedules, rosters, reports, awards, and other records
- Assists with scheduling facilities, officials, volunteers, instructors, vendors, equipment, and other resources necessary for assigned programs and events
- Supervises, trains, and provides work direction to assigned seasonal employees and volunteers
- Monitors activities to ensure compliance with departmental policies, program rules, and safety procedures
- Responds to participant, parent, and public inquiries, concerns, and complaints and resolves routine issues in accordance with departmental policies
- Assists with promoting recreation programs through public communications, promotional materials, news releases, and community outreach
- Maintains inventories of program equipment and supplies and identifies approved purchasing needs
- Assists with opening, closing, monitoring, and maintaining assigned recreation facilities and addresses or reports safety concerns as appropriate
- Assists with set-up, tear-down, and logistical support for recreation programs, community events, and department activities
- Performs general administrative and customer service duties, including maintaining records and responding to public inquiries
- Assists with emergency response and incident reporting related to recreation programs and facilities
- Performs related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Training and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent (GED)
- Associate degree in Recreation Administration, Sports Management, or a related field preferred
- Three (3) years experience in recreation programming, sports administration, event coordination, youth programming, customer service, or a related field
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other irregular hours as required
- CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment
- Subject to background check and periodic driver's license review
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of recreation programming, program administration, athletic leagues, youth activities, special events, community recreation services, and customer service practices
- Knowledge of recreation facilities, equipment, event operations, and safe work practices
- Skill in organizing and administering multiple recreation programs and events
- Skill in resolving participant concerns and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, participants, community organizations, and the public
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions within established policies and procedures
- Ability to supervise seasonal employees and volunteers while working independently and collaboratively
- Ability to utilize recreation management software, computers, and standard office applications
