This supervisory position will be stationed at and primarily serve the Work Release Center (WRC) of 7th Judicial District Iowa Department of Corrections.

This community based correctional center provides an important intermediate step for criminal justice involved persons who desire to re-enter the community after a period of incarceration. This position is one of two that serve the WRC. The primary responsibilities for this position are to supervise second shift Residential Officers and to oversee onboarding of newly hired Residential Officers throughout the district. The workflow affords some schedule flexibility; however, it is required that at least half the hours each week occur during conventional second shift hours when direct reports are on duty. This position will work closely with the other supervisor at the WRC to ensure seamless operations throughout the unit and is expected to collaborate effectively within the broader team context of Residential and District leaders. In collaboration with the other WRC supervisor, this person is expected to recruit, hire and retain direct reports to build and maintain an effective work unit, one that promotes a healthy work culture and outstanding teamwork throughout the unit. This position is responsible for all supervisory aspects for direct reports including but not limited to routine check ins, coaching, performance evaluations, timesheet submission, timely communication of HR matters, quality assurance, and staff discipline. While the successful candidate will have clear responsibilities in terms of who their direct reports are, the nature of residential work requires high levels of communication and teamwork with other supervisors to ensure staff are effectively supported regardless of which supervisor is available to provide assistance. Further, providing backup coverage in the event another supervisor in the Residential Division is unavailable for an extended period may be necessary as part of high-quality teamwork. This position will co-lead the WRC to maintain a culture that is positive and productive for clients, the community, and employees. They will serve as a member of the district's Leadership Team and will support statewide residential leadership initiatives. The successful applicant will be responsible for coordination of onboarding activities for all new Residential Officers throughout the residential division that encompasses two buildings and serves approximately 180 residents. Coordination of onboarding efforts entails creation of a thoughtful, comprehensive, and individualized training plan for all new hires. This position is responsible for providing training, coordinating training with other content experts, monitoring progress, and providing mentorship to new employees throughout the first 6 months of employment. If the new employee is also a direct report for this supervisor, this position will also maintain normal supervisory responsibilities for those new staff. Strong communication skills, passion to invest in the professional development of others, and commitment to high-quality teamwork in all aspects of the work are essential for success in this role. In addition to supervision of direct reports and coordination of onboarding for all Residential Officers, this position will be required to help with overall unit operations, including assignment of work, completion of identified training and follow-through on assigned administrative duties. They will adhere to all Department policies and procedures and will be responsible for ensuring quality work occurs in all areas they operate. This position will review and approve written reports, provide timely and effective feedback to staff, and make quality decisions in a timely manner. They will also be expected to work with direct reports when performance is inadequate, deploying tools such as performance improvement plans as necessary, in coordination with HR and other district leaders. The position is required to adhere to and enforce Prison Rape Elimination Act standards, to work in tandem with another supervisor to investigate administrative matters as assigned and may be responsible to take disciplinary action with direct reports when serious issues arise. This position is part of an on-call rotation, shared with other supervisors, that provides support to staff on a 24/7 basis. Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field, and experience equal to four years of full-time work in human services, criminal justice, or corrections.
2. A total of eight years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
3. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Probation/Parole Officer 3.
