Dock Supervisor

Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a Dock Supervisor to oversee daily dock operations, ensure safety and efficiency, and maintain high standards of service within our freight network. Responsibilities Monitor and evaluate the safety of each employee on a daily basis. Monitor and evaluate the safe and efficient loading and unloading process of freight throughout the shift. Teach employees safe lifting techniques and apply safe lifting practices as needed. Maintain housekeeping within the shift to ensure safety and productivity. Manage, assign, and supervise dock employees to ensure proper utilization of personnel, equipment, loading, and unloading while meeting company and customer expectations. Manage all dock work schedules and time‑off requests. Collaborate with the Operations Manager, Assistant Service Center Manager, or Service Center Manager to align daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly business objectives. Provide analyses, suggestions, and ideas for operational improvements within the shift, department, and facility. Provide continuous constructive feedback to employees on ROI, MPH, stops per hour, return shipments, missed shipments, delivery/pick‑up errors, and overall productivity; handle disciplinary actions as needed. Conduct daily inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, OSHA, and DOT regulations. Ensure all trailers are loaded correctly to ensure safe transport of freight. Inspect trailers throughout the day for cleanliness and correct loading/unloading techniques. Operate AS400, BLU, DYMS, and other internal freight monitoring systems to track freight movement. Complete forklift job training and operate a forklift as necessary within the service center. Conduct daily shift meetings. Make quick, informed decisions based on volume levels and communicate schedules to affected employees. Inspect working conditions of tools and equipment needed for safe operation within the area and direct corrections of improper or adverse conditions. Comprehend and ensure compliance with company and government regulations. Work assigned shift(s) as needed and be available to accommodate customer pick‑up and delivery schedules. Qualifications High school degree or equivalent; some college preferred; bachelor’s degree preferred. At least 2 years of operations experience, preferably in the transportation industry. Supervisory experience preferred. Working knowledge of AS400, Microsoft Office, DYMS, and BLU systems. Knowledge of general DOT regulations. Good verbal and written communication skills. Working Days and Shift Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Shift schedule is subject to change based on business needs.
