Reports To: Director of Transportation, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent

Employment Status: 9 Months


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications:

1. High school graduate or equivalent.

2. Valid driver's license.

3. Record of good attendance and strong work ethic.

4. Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301-20-03 of the Ohio Administrative Code.

5. Completion of satisfactory pre-employment drivers training program, basic van drivers education program, van drivers certificate.

6. Must have 5 years continuous driving record.

7. Be physically qualified as determined by an annual physical examination.

8. Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.

9. Willingness to participate in future training.

10. Alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board of Education may find appropriate.

General Description:

Is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of school pupils within the guidelines of the State of Ohio and the policies established by the local Board of Education, maintains discipline on the van, promotes good public relations by neat appearance, proper attitude, and appearance of the school vans.

Essential Functions:

1. Obeys all traffic laws.

2. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school van.

3. Maintains discipline when students are on the van.

4. Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.

5. Keeps assigned van clean inside and outside. Driver is to keep the front and rear windows clean at all times. When a spare van is issued; the van is to be swept, fueled and all windows and doors closed.

6. Keeps assigned schedule. Driver is to carry accurate timepiece on the bus. Driver will report to the point of departure 15 minutes before a field trip.

7. Checks van before each operation for mechanical defects. Driver is to be at the van 15 minutes before the start of his/her first daily run to perform a pre-trip inspection.

8. Notifies the proper authority in case of a mechanical failure or serious delay.

9. Discharges students only at authorized stops.

10. Exercises responsible leadership during out of district trips. Driver is to be in charge.

11. Transports only authorized students.

12. Reports all accidents and completes required reports.

13. Completes all reports as requested.

14. Enforces regulations against the use of tobacco and eating on the van.

15. Routes are not to be changed without the approval of the Director of Transportation.

16. Reads the bulletin board daily.

17. Prompt attendance at all paid meetings is required unless excused by the Director of Transportation.

18. Maintains accurate routing information for the bid route.

19. Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.

20. Helps maintain safety and security in the buildings.

21. Accesses and responds to electronic communication (i.e., website, email, voice mail,etc.) daily.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.

2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

3. Responsible for clocking in and out each day.

4. Reports absence into online reporting system

5. Remains compliant with district policies regarding alcohol and substance use/abuse. (example: PO 4122.01 and PO 4170)

6. Conducts all work in a safe and responsible manner.

7. Conducts other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Additional Working Conditions:

1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.

2. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.

3. Occasional interaction among unruly children.

4. Regular requirement to reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, stoop and kneel.

5. Lift, carry, push, and pull various supplies and materials up to 60 pounds.

6. Repetitive hand motion (e.g. driving, opening door...).

7. Frequent climbing of stairs.
