At our learning-centered college, the Library Specialist will serve as a contributing member of a diverse team, providing technical and specialized paraprofessional library assistance to students, staff, and faculty. This role delivers exceptional customer service at the Circulation and Reserves desk, oversees the seed library, assists with the inter-district loan program, supports special events and displays, and handles general circulation tasks, as well as acts as a lead worker for student staff.
Beyond daily library duties, the Library Specialist also works on the Open Education Resource (OER) team and assists with editing and reviewing OER materials, focusing on attribution, accessibility, and clarity for Open Maricopa projects, while tracking project data and completing additional assigned initiatives.
The successful candidate will possess at least 2 years of customer service experience; a background in a college or higher-education library using an Integrated Library System (ILS); experience serving diverse populations; and exceptional copyediting and organizational skills with sharp attention to detail.
Note: A second interview will be conducted in the hiring process.
Essential Functions50% Provides customer service support at the library's Circulation/Reserves desk; assists with the receiving and processing of collection materials, maintains and oversees the seed library, may coordinate the used-book sales, is responsible for inter-district library loans, and performs additional circulation duties as needed. Responsibilities may include supervising student workers, but this is not the focus of this job. Participate in special programs such as Day of the Dead and Lunar New Year events, creating book/media displays, and serving on college/district committees.
40% Conduct editorial reviews for attribution, copyediting, accessibility, completeness, clarity, and consistency of new and existing Open Maricopa projects. Participate in local data collection and maintain documentation on completed projects and timelines for review.
10% Completes additional special projects as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsAssociate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) year of experience in library support services such as library information resources, circulation services and equipment coordination.

An equivalent combination of education and/or experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications1. Two (2) or more years of customer service experience
2. Experience working with diverse populations
3. Experience working in a college or university setting
4. Experience working in a library, including experience working with an Integrated Library System (ILS) or automated circulation software.
5. Strong communication skills with a focus on writing, copyediting, and strong attention to detail.
6. Demonstrated organizational proficiency, with the ability to set timelines and maintain accuracy.
7. One year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two years.
Special Working Conditions- May require possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License or other state license; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving:
- Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense

- Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
- May require travel or work at the Black Mountain campus
- May require numerous evenings or weekends
- May require prolonged periods of standing, sitting and viewing a computer screen
- May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs.
