Plumber

You don’t have to be job hunting to be curious. Most of the plumbers we talk to are already employed. They’re just exploring whether their career could feel more organized, more stable, or more respected. If that thought has crossed your mind even once….It might be worth a conversation. No resumes - No pressure. Just clarityand a private and confidential conversation. POSITION PURPOSE The Journeyman Plumber leads assigned new construction and remodeling work, delivering safe, code-compliant installations while using crew time and materials efficiently. They are accountable for the quality of the completed work, the development of apprentices working with them, accurate job documentation, and clear communication with the NC Manager. A journeyman in this position may also be assigned to assist with or run service work. When doing so, they follow Ackerman’s Service standards and expectations. DIRECTION AND RESPONSIBILITY The journeyman works with the NC Manager to understand the approved scope, schedule, and goals for an assigned job. They plan and direct the crew’s daily work, delegate tasks according to each person’s skills, and take responsibility for the finished work regardless of which crew member performed a task. They may carry out and discuss work within the approved scope. They may agree to a layout adjustment when, in their judgment, it has no meaningful effect on labor hours or material costs. Changes to scope or fixtures, added work, and revisions with cost implications must be brought to management. The journeyman may discuss pricing that management has approved, obtain required approval signatures, and proceed when the proper documentation is in place. They may set a price only when management has specifically authorized them to do so. They may suggest schedule changes but do not change the schedule independently. CORE DUTIES Lead assigned new construction and remodeling plumbing work, including rough-in, installation, trim-out, testing, and completion of remaining items. When assigned, review plans and scope, plan work and materials, coordinate inspections, and address punch-list items. Set daily task goals, delegate work efficiently, and match apprentice assignments to each apprentice’s year, demonstrated skills, and development needs. Train apprentices through instruction, practice, and constructive coaching. Have apprentices correct their own mistakes when appropriate, recognize good work, and provide opportunities to strengthen weaker skills. Involve management when repeated issues continue despite coaching. Check the crew’s work and correct quality or code concerns before work is handed off or covered. Maintain responsibility for the completed job even when tasks were delegated. Travel between jobsites, suppliers, and the warehouse to deliver or pick up people, tools, materials, or job essentials. Communicate progress, schedule risks, scope questions, and job needs to the NC Manager. Keep communication open about hours and progress so management can audit the job against its plan. Work directly with suppliers to resolve missing or incorrect materials when possible. Ensure job checklists, count sheets, receipts, and job notes are complete, accurate, reviewed, and turned in. Handle change-order documentation and signatures when applicable. Complete their own daily job and time entries and remind crew members to complete theirs. Each employee remains responsible for their own time record. Communicate professionally with homeowners and general contractors. Bring management into a disagreement that cannot be resolved respectfully at the job level. SAFETY AND CARE Follow Ackerman’s safety protocols, use the protective equipment required for each task, and ensure the crew follows safe work practices. Perform and verify work according to Ackerman’s installation standards and applicable plumbing code. Address unsafe practices and quality concerns promptly. Protect customer property, maintain an orderly work area, and ensure the jobsite is left free of trash and debris, particularly on floors. Treat customers, coworkers, vehicles, tools, and materials with care and respect. REQUIREMENTS Maintain a current and active journeyman plumber's license. Ability to lead plumbing installations and evaluate the quality of work performed by the crew. Ability to train apprentices, delegate effectively, and manage daily work with attention to time, materials, and job goals. Valid driver’s license and continued eligibility to drive under Ackerman’s vehicle insurance requirements. Ability to perform the physical work of the position, including lifting and carrying materials, working outdoors, using ladders, and working in tight spaces. Reliable attendance, sound judgment, flexibility, a positive attitude, and clear communication with the crew, management, customers, and general contractors. WHAT SUCCESS AND WINNING LOOK LIKE The journeyman delivers quality work, develops apprentices, uses crew time thoughtfully, and keeps jobs moving. Their paperwork is accurate and timely. They communicate emerging issues early, handle supplier problems they can resolve, and know when a decision belongs with management. An excellent journeyman remains flexible, brings a positive attitude to changing job needs, communicates exceptionally well, and asks for or accepts greater responsibility. GROWTH The journeyman continues developing the ability to plan and lead projects reliably with limited or no guidance from the NC Manager. Growth may include taking responsibility for more complex jobs, improving crew training and job planning, and contributing more broadly to Ackerman’s new construction and remodeling operations. #J-18808-Ljbffr Ackerman Plumbing Inc.
