Physician (Primary Care)

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your application within four months of appointment. Award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements listed below. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians who met the previous qualification standard at time of initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements. Basic Requirements United States citizenship (non‑citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy) Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from a VA‑approved school Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia Residency training: either completed an accredited core specialty program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, or one of the following alternatives: (a) one year of post‑medical‑school training plus two years of independent practice; (b) non‑U.S. residency training followed by at least three years of verified independent practice in the U.S.; or (c) residency enrollment in an ACGME/AOA program and eligibility for appointment as a Physician Resident Provider. Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred: Primary‑care experience Duties Provide primary‑care services as a member of a multidisciplinary health‑care team, collaborating with other team members to deliver care to Veterans. Conduct comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work‑up, and clinic interventions, including history, physical examination, and patient education. Manage acute and chronic conditions for assigned panel patients and coordinate care with other team members. Initiate referrals and consultations, order and evaluate diagnostic tests, and adjust medication orders as needed. Document all clinical encounters in the electronic patient record system on the day of the encounter. Respond to electronic alerts and health line requests promptly. Adhere to performance‑measure guidelines, national VA formulary requirements, and customer‑service standards. Maintain ethical standards and work effectively with patients, families, and VA staff.
