JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                  

MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior training in music, theology, and/or other ministry related disciplines.
• Significant experience as a worship leader in a contemporary context
• The ability to direct the congregation’s attention to God in worship
• Significant experience in working with worship bands and other ensembles
• Advanced skill as either a guitarist and/or pianist and vocalist
• Proven abilities to lead, organize, equip, encourage, and communicate (verbal & written), with volunteers and other staff.
• Ability to work with computer-based administrative systems and software for church and music ministry management (Planning Center, Pro Presenter, etc).
• Ability to manage, lead, and serve others as a team player.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

• An undergraduate degree (in disciplines such as music, theology, or other ministry related fields) or equivalent experience

• Knowledge of sound systems and music technology used in worship including live streaming and recording
• Zeal for the worship of God and a demonstrated understanding of the Biblical and Reformed theological underpinnings of worship, as well as a philosophy of ministry and worship that is in agreement with the ministries and theology of FPC.
• Knowledge of and skill to use Planning Center, Pro Presenter, and other ministry related software tools.
• An advanced knowledge of both modern contemporary Christian music and familiar traditional hymns
• A working knowledge of worship including liturgies specific to all major observances in the liturgical calendar (Lent, Easter, Holy Week, Pentecost, Advent, etc).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work in creative partnership with the Pastoral/Preaching staff and Minister of Music to plan, coordinate and lead music for the church’s Modern services (9:30 & 11:00 am Sundays) based on input from the preaching pastor and/or supervisor.

• Lead weekly rehearsals with the Modern Worship Team / Band (Wednesday evenings) and a pre-service sound check on Sunday mornings.
• Select music for weekly worship.  When possible, consider sermon series, liturgical season, and liturgical content (such as communion, baptisms, moment for missions, etc.) when making selections; communicate selections and rehearsal recordings to the band and media team via Planning Center Software prior to Wednesday rehearsals (preferably the week before).
• Attend Tuesday morning Worship Planning meetings (11:00 am) and maintain some additional office hours during the week as determined by the Minister of Music. 
• Actively communicate via phone, email, text and in-person with church staff to coordinate details of weekly worship.  As needed, attend meetings of various worship related committees.
• Build worship orders using Planning Center and communicate those to the staff/worship leadership and media team for the service; a draft of the worship orders should be completed by Tuesday Worship Planning at 11 am.  Final worship order information should be available no later than 12 Noon each Thursday.
• Coordinate/schedule/recruit volunteer band/worship team personnel for weekly worship leadership/participation. Schedule periodic check-ins with members of the team for the purpose of relationship building and pastoral care.
• As needed, lead music for special events and/or worship services in the life of the church as requested or approved by supervisor (within the time allotted per week / additional hours will be compensated beyond agreed upon weekly hours).
• Explore ways to incorporate youth and children into the worship life of the Contemporary Service.
• Maintain equipment related to the Modern Worship Team; collaborate with the Media Coordinator regarding house sound and lighting used in the Modern Worship context (Westminster Hall).  Coordinate any equipment, supplies, church reimbursed meals or license purchases with the Minister of Music.  Major purchases should be approved in advance by the Minister of Music.
• As directed, develop, plan and implement other worship/concert opportunities beyond Sunday mornings such as worship nights, FPC produced concerts, hosting touring artists and similar events.
• Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
