SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Adult Literacy Services National External Diploma Program (NEDP) Advisor/Assessor serves as an instructional team member of the Program of Adult Literacy Services (PALS). The NEDP Advisor/Assessor is responsible for implementing the exact model defined by the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (DLLR) and the National External Diploma Program for all phases of the Adult External Diploma Program.

Please note this is a grant-funded, part-time position for no more than 29 hours per week.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

• The Adult Literacy Services NEDP Advisor/Assessor reports directly to and is responsible to the Director of Developmental Education & Adult Literacy Services.
• The Adult Literacy Services NEDP Advisor/Assessor coordinates most closely with the Intake Assessment & Transition Specialist (IATS), Orientation Specialist (OS), Adult Literacy Services and ELL Transition Specialist (ELLTS), Instructional Specialist (IS), and the Office Associates I and II of the Program of Adult Literacy Services (PALS).
• The position provides no supervision.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. NEDP Advisor:

• Obtain demographic data on all applicants.
• Administer Diagnostics and interprets diagnostic results with client.
• Introduce program processes to prospective applicants.
• Provide feedback on self-directed learning plan and identify possible learning resources.
• Identify College & Career Competency to be assessed.
• Facilitate applicant's entry into the Generalized Assessment Phase

B. NEDP Assessor:

• Administer Generalized Assessment competency area activities.
• Evaluate performance in activities and provide client feedback.
• Conduct In-Office Checks after appropriate Generalized Assessment activities.
• Release the evaluation results of the competencies demonstrated to the candidate.
• Conduct and evaluate Post-Activity Assessment.
• Organize and implement the Individualized Assessment process.
• Review and approve portfolios completed by other Assessors as assigned.

C. NEDP Portfolio Reviewer:

• Conduct independent reviews of completed portfolios, including Generalized and Individualized Competencies.
• Generate the diploma request and give all documentation to the PALS or DEALS representative.

D. Local Program Duties:

• Work as a team member with the Program Director, IATS, IS, ELLTS, and AOA II to meet program goals and performance measures.
• Attend occasional scheduled meetings and professional development opportunities.
• Promote strategies to retain learners.

E. State Program Duties:

• Attend all required local, regional, and Department of Labor NEDP Assessor/Advisor professional development meetings.
• Stay informed of current research and best practices in adult education regarding NEDP.

Other duties as assigned based upon program demographics, enrollment trends, and the needs of special student populations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• The NEDP Advisor/Assessor must satisfactorily complete the NEDP Implementation Training provided by CASAS and become certified prior to serving clients.
• The NEDP Advisor/Assessor must maintain certification based on the CASAS training policies.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and web-based software is required.
• Ability to evaluate writing and critical thinking demonstrations is required.
• Ability to work independently and accurately under pressure and make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills with students, faculty, and administration; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with instructional staff, students, and others of diverse backgrounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Small classroom environment serving 1-6 students at a time, usually by appointment. Some evening hours may be required.

TRAINING: Applicant must be available in morning OR evening for weekly trainings September 8-October 5, 2026 (schedule available upon request). After training, the assessor is assigned one client (student) to work with at a weekly appointment from the student's entrance into NEDP until the student's graduation (average 5-6  months). At that time, the assessor is released to serve multiple clients with weekly appointments.
