Position Summary:


We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Developer with deep expertise in SQL and a strong background in oil and gas operations. This individual will play a key role in supporting field operations, drilling, and production teams by building reliable, real-time data systems, applications, and visualizations using Power BI, Spotfire, Databricks, FastAPI, and modern cloud-native technologies .


As the company transitions to mobile-friendly tools and modern data platforms, this role will be instrumental in helping bridge the gap between legacy systems and next-generation analytics. The Senior Data Developer will contribute to modern data architectures, APIs, application development, and data integration solutions that ensure business users have timely, reliable insights.


Responsibilities:

• Extract, clean, validate, and transform data using SQL from multiple upstream systems, including Allegro, Aries, and ProCount databases.
• Design, build, and maintain dashboards in Power BI and Spotfire to support real-time operational visibility, performance tracking, and executive reporting.
• Leverage Databricks to streamline large-scale data workflows and support advanced analytics initiatives.
• Develop and maintain data-driven APIs and backend services using FastAPI to make data and analytics capabilities accessible to modern applications.
• Support development of mobile-friendly and web-based data applications using Next.js and modern application development practices.
• Work with graph databases and graph-based data models to represent relationships between wells, assets, operations, equipment, and other interconnected data.
• Design and support message queue systems for reliable, scalable, and asynchronous data processing and integration between applications and data platforms.
• Work with Kubernetes and containerized environments to support deployment, scalability, and reliability of data services and applications.
• Collaborate with drilling, completions, and production teams to gather reporting requirements and troubleshoot data issues.
• Work cross-functionally with IT, data engineering, and field staff to enhance data reliability, integration, and governance.
• Help modernize legacy data processes and integrate enterprise systems with newer data platforms and applications.
• Document data processes, APIs, dashboards, workflows, and technical solutions to ensure clarity and repeatability across the team.
• Translate complex technical data and requirements into clear, actionable solutions for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 7+ years of experience in a data analyst, data developer, data engineer, or data systems analyst role.
• 2+ years of experience in the oil & gas industry is required.
• Strong SQL expertise - this is the most critical skill for success in this role.
• Proficiency in Power BI (primary reporting tool going forward).
• Hands-on experience with Spotfire (currently in use for many dashboards).
• Familiarity with Databricks and modern data lakehouse environments.
• Experience developing APIs or backend services using FastAPI, Python, or similar technologies .
• Experience with modern web application frameworks such as Next.js or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with graph databases and graph data modeling.
• Experience with message queue systems and event-driven or asynchronous data processing.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, or other containerized/cloud-native environments .
• Experience with oil & gas enterprise systems such as Aries, Allegro, Quorum, SAP, WellView, SiteView, or ProCount - candidates don't need all, but a solid combination is preferred.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills - you'll be working across technical and business units.
