Registered Nurse (RN) NICU (PRN)

Unit Details The Neonatal ICU at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is a Five‑time Designated Magnet® Hospital. It is a 36‑bed Level IV NICU that provides expert nursing care for infants with many critical diagnoses. The unit serves as the highest level of care in Washington, D.C. and as the major referral center for MedStar‑affiliated facilities and several community hospitals in the Tri‑state area. The most frequently encountered diagnoses include: Respiratory Distress Syndrome Extreme Prematurity Neonatal Encephalopathy Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension Sepsis / Septic Shock Neurological Disorders Genetic and/or Metabolic Disorders Gastrointestinal Disorders Surgical needs Innovative treatments and technologies offered in the NICU include: Extra‑Corporal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Total Body Therapeutic Hypothermia Bedside Patent Ductus Arteriosus Ligation Inhaled Nitric Oxide High‑Frequency Oscillator Ventilation High‑Frequency Jet Ventilation The nursing staff is highly engaged, with many nurses participating in Shared Governance and the Clinical Advancement Program. Key committees and councils led by clinical nurses include: Parent Advisory Support Group Practice Council Scheduling Committee Bereavement Committee Developmental Care Committee Schedule Night Shift: 7:00 pm – 7:30 am Minimum of 6 shifts per 6‑week schedule. Key Responsibilities As a Clinical Nurse, you will provide skilled, compassionate care to patients and families across a spectrum of needs—from routine to highly complex. You will assess evolving patient conditions, identify actual and potential health concerns, and develop appropriate care plans. Interventions may be delivered directly or coordinated through collaboration with other members of the nursing team.
