Location 70 FM 1960 West,Houston, TX, 77090,United States Contact information Name Toniika Wakefield Description Position Summary As a Barber Instructor, you'll combine your industry expertise with your passion for developing others. You'll work directly with students in the classroom and student barbershop/clinic, helping them progress from learning foundational concepts to confidently performing services on clients. Your responsibilities will include: Deliver engaging classroom, practical, and hands-on instruction using Milan Institute's approved Barbering curriculum. Demonstrate professional barbering techniques and provide students with individualized coaching and feedback. Teach applicable barbering subjects, including haircutting, clipper techniques, fades, tapers, shear work, razor cutting, shaving, beard and mustache grooming, hairstyling, scalp and hair care, and other services included within the curriculum. Teach proper use, care, and maintenance of barbering tools and equipment. Reinforce sanitation, disinfection, infection-control, and client-safety standards. Supervise students while they perform services on clients in the student barbershop/clinic. Help students develop strong client consultation, communication, customer-service, and client-retention skills. Teach students professional workplace expectations, including punctuality, appearance, communication, accountability, and ethical conduct. Monitor student attendance, academic progress, practical skill development, and overall performance. Evaluate student competency through written exams, practical demonstrations, assignments, and other approved assessments. Provide additional coaching and instructional support to students who are struggling. Maintain accurate and timely attendance, grades, practical requirements, evaluations, and other required student records. Maintain an organized, professional, safe, and engaging classroom and clinic environment. Ensure students remain actively engaged in educational activities during scheduled instructional time. Prepare students for applicable state licensing examinations and reinforce state laws, regulations, and scope-of-practice requirements. Encourage and support students as they progress toward graduation, licensure, and employment. Participate in faculty meetings, training, orientations, graduations, student activities, and professional development. Collaborate with faculty, campus leadership, Student Services, Registrar, Financial Aid, and Career Services to support student success. What We're Looking For We're looking for an experienced barber who has strong technical skills and, just as importantly, enjoys helping others learn. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Graduate of an approved Barbering or related training program, as applicable. Minimum of three (3) years of professional barbering experience. Current Barber license and any Instructor license, certification, or other credential required by the state in which instruction is provided. Must meet all applicable state and accreditation requirements for Barbering instructors. Strong technical knowledge of professional barbering techniques, tools, sanitation, and safety. Ability to effectively demonstrate hands-on barbering skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong commitment to student success. Ability to provide constructive feedback while holding students accountable to academic and professional expectations. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to maintain accurate student records and meet established deadlines. Professionalism, dependability, and strong follow-through. Previous teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring experience is preferred but not required. Physical Requirements This position requires regular standing and walking for extended periods while providing classroom and hands-on instruction. The instructor frequently uses their hands and arms to demonstrate barbering techniques and may be required to bend, reach, and move throughout classroom and student clinic areas. The position may occasionally require lifting and/or moving products, equipment, or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
