American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a high-acuity stepdown unit requiring strong vasoactive drip titration experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Position details:

• Higher-acuity ICU stepdown/Intermediate Care unit in a community hospital setting
• 20-bed unit with average daily census of 18 and target patient ratios of 1:3-4
• Patient population includes post rapid response team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-surgical patients (GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, ortho)
• Pre/post OB patients with complications requiring Pitocin management
• Patient ages range from adolescent to geriatric
• Night shift, 3x12 hour schedule (6:45pm-7:15am)
• Every other weekend requirement
• Floating required to a sister ICCU unit as needed
• Pressor drips administered on unit include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo; patients requiring more than one pressor are transferred to ICU
• Uses bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup
• Unit does not have ventilators but uses A-lines, BIPAPs, chest tubes, and tracheostomies
• Charts in Epic and uses Pyxis medication system
• No block scheduling available

Requirements:

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
• Must have experience administering and titrating vasoactive drips including Levophed and Neo
• Experience with arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and peripheral line care required
• Experience with blood product administration and IV insulin protocols required
• Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring required
• Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), BIPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care required
• Experience with Rapid Response/Code teams required
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE required
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional information:

• Care for higher-acuity patients in an ICU stepdown environment that operates more like a traditional ICU
• Recognize and treat dysrhythmias using bedside telemetry monitoring
• Scrub colors required: navy, white, or a combination of the two
• Hospital orientation held during week one; must be available for classes each day
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• No RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval and cannot be requested after signing
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying as a travelers, with facility approval required
• Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units with separate schedules
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
