Room Care Specialists - Preventative Maintenance

The Room Care Specialist is responsible for maintaining the appearance, functionality, cleanliness, and overall condition of guest rooms, cottages, and related guest areas through a structured preventive maintenance and room-care program.

The position is designed to identify and correct minor maintenance and cosmetic issues before they become guest complaints, major maintenance problems, or costly repairs. The Room Care Specialist will work closely with Housekeeping and Engineering to ensure guest accommodations consistently meet Oglebay’s standards for cleanliness, appearance, comfort, safety, and functionality. where rooms are systematically inspected and refreshed rather than waiting for problems to be reported.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Conduct routine inspections of assigned guest rooms and cottages and complete minor repairs and preventative care tasks.
• Touch-up painting on walls, doors, trim, baseboards, and furniture.
• Repair or touch-up damaged or worn caulking around: bathtubs, showers, sinks, countertops, backsplashes, toilets.
• Remove deteriorated caulking and replace as appropriate.
• Clean and maintain shower heads and remove mineral buildup.
• Clean and inspect bathroom drains and drain covers.
• Replace worn or damaged shower curtains and liners.
• Tighten loose towel bars, toilet paper holders, robe hooks, handles, and other bathroom hardware.
• Tighten or replace loose cabinet and furniture hardware.
• Repair minor damage to doors, door stops, hinges, and handles.
• Touch up furniture finishes and identify furniture requiring replacement or major repair.
• Replace light bulbs and other guest-room consumable components as authorized.
• Replace batteries in applicable guest-room devices.
• Inspect lamps, switches, outlets, and other fixtures and report electrical concerns to Engineering.
• Inspect window coverings, blinds, curtains, and hardware.
• Inspect mattresses, box springs, bed frames, headboards, and other guest-room furnishings.
• Identify damaged or worn carpet, flooring, tile, walls, ceilings, and trim.
• Inspect and report water leaks, stains, mold/mildew concerns, or signs of moisture intrusion.

• Inspect HVAC vents, thermostats, and accessible components for obvious problems and report mechanical issues.

• Inspect plumbing fixtures for leaks, slow drains, loose fixtures, or other concerns.

• Perform minor plumbing repairs within the employee’s approved skill level and scope.

• Replace minor hardware and room components as directed.

• Complete appropriate trainings listed on the human resources Training Matrix.

• Adhere to Wheeling Park Commission’s safety rules and policy; refer any and all safety concerns to department manager, safety committee or human resources.

• Interact with the public with a cheerful and positive attitude, solve guest problems and complaints in a proper manner, and maintain harmonious working relationships with fellow employees.

  EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
