Position summary The Controls Electrician diagnoses, installs, programs, and maintains electrical control systems that support motors and pump equipment. The work scope will include water wells, vertical turbine pumps, submersible pumps, booster pump stations, motor controls, VFD systems, and related electrical equipment.

This role works on single- and three-phase AC/DC motors and controls, PLCs, VFDs, and related circuitry in the field and shop, with a strong focus on reliability, code compliance, and customer support.

Essential duties

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical control system faults on pump systems, electric motors, and single- and three-phase AC/DC motor controls.
• Analyze circuitry, PLCs, VFDs, soft starters, motor starters and related control components to identify root cause and complete repairs.
• Install and commission new electrical control systems for motors and pumps.
• Program and configure PLCs and VFDs for reliable, efficient operation.
• Develop and follow preventive maintenance plans for electrical control systems.
• Install and troubleshoot pressure switches, pressure transducers, level controls, floats, flow meters, and related instrumentation.
• Perform inspections and testing to catch issues before they cause downtime.
• Provide customers with technical support on control system operation, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Complete installations and repairs in accordance with applicable electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards.
• Maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others on the job.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a journeyman electrician.
• Demonstrated experience with motor and pump controls, including PLCs and VFDs.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control documentation.
• Working knowledge of single- and three-phase AC/DC systems.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work at customer sites as required.
• Commitment to safe work practices and code-compliant installations.

Preferred

• Experience in water, wastewater, municipal, or industrial pump applications.
• PLC and VFD programming experience from prior field or shop work.
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs for electrical controls.
