Description:
The Director of Nursing Services is responsible for directing and leading operational, financial, programmatic, and personnel activities for Ambulatory Operations. This includes establishing, meeting, and continuously monitoring the goals and objectives while maintaining alignment with the strategic goals and objectives of Community Health Development Partners (CHDP). The position provides direction and leadership to ensure CHDP meets the ‘Quadruple Aim’ of great patient care and improved population health within an efficient cost structure while improving the work life of providers and staff. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s major responsibility is directing the day-to-day operations, budgeting, financial management, and human resource management.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for nursing practice oversight by organizing and leading the delivery of nursing care for designated patient care areas. This includes:
- analyzing clinical practice and identifying opportunities to increase quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency within Primary and Specialty Care.
- identifying clinical indicators to measure, evaluate, and improve care.
- maintaining compliance with all clinical policies, procedures, and regulations.
- supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare providers who deliver nursing care.
- Provides an experience and environment of patient- and family-centered care.
- Interprets the impact of broad-scope organizational change for staff and develops change strategies for successful implementation.
- Incorporates CHDP’s vision, missions, and values in goals and programs within Ambulatory Operations.
- Develop and manage operational initiatives with measurable outcomes.
- Formulates objectives, goals, and strategies collaboratively with other stakeholders.
- Prepares and delivers reports to operational leadership outlining progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives, including performance related to finance, clinical activity, quality, safety, marketing, and human resources.
- Actively seeks opportunities to improve financial outcomes, engaging staff in the process.
- Establishes annual financial goals and actively uses benchmarking to high-performing systems in similar areas of expertise to set annual targets.
- Monitors and analyzes financial data and utilizes it for decisions regarding FTEs, staffing, and operational budget.
- Establishes an annual operating and capital budget, demonstrating fiscal responsibility through meeting budget targets.
- Creates business plan(s), justifying variances and analyzing cost benefit of programs.
- Directs and guides managers to allocate resources effectively based on patient volume, space availability, budget constraints, program priorities, goals, and objectives.
- Articulates to staff the budget and the context within the organizational financials.
- Contribute to the success of CHDP by providing leadership, direction, and coordination of operations, finances, and human resources for areas of responsibility.
- Remains current with new trends and best practices and incorporates them into Ambulatory Operations practices and programs.
- Articulates and enforces standards for quality/safe patient care.
- Responsible for tracking, securing, and managing all controlled substances and high-risk medications.
- Develop and implement innovative systems and processes that improve staff and patient quality and safety.
- Demonstrates achievable and measurable results and develops action plans for improvement.
- Initiates, monitors, and enforces regulatory requirements.
- Holds self and others accountable to policy, standards, and commitments and provides timely follow-through on questions and concerns.
- Ensures development of Ambulatory Operations initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and family-centered care.
- Develop and implement clinical outcome measures for quality improvement, cost and complication reduction, and the implementation of evidence-based medicine.
- Incorporates the use of evidence-based practice and appreciative inquiry into program development and improvement activities.
- Actively listens to staff ideas and concerns, assesses others' communication styles, and adapts to them.
- Effectively facilitates meetings at Ambulatory Operations and organizational level.
- Communicate with physicians, academic department leaders, and senior administrators to coordinate with other Community Health programs.
- Demonstrates empathy and concern while ensuring Ambulatory Operations goals are met.
- Creates an environment that encourages diverse opinions, recognizes differences, and incorporates them into processes and services.
- Creates a culture and systems for recognizing and rewarding staff.

Education/Experience:
- Licensed RN in the appropriate state
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University
- Master’s degree in nursing, Business Administration, or Healthcare Administration; preferred
- Minimum of five years experience in a related field and/or healthcare facility
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety, and infection control.

- Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal, and local regulations.
- Always represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the organization.
