This position is part of a university-wide initiative torecruit high-impact tenured faculty members to support its rapidlygrowing, transformative research portfolio, with universitysponsored research awards of $568 M in FY25. The Department of Chemistry in the College of Humanities andSciences (CHS) in collaboration with the Office of the Provost andthe Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, invites applications for a faculty position at the rank ofAssociate or Full Professor in innovative, application-drivenchemistry aimed at addressing society’s grand challenges in humanhealth and drug discovery. We seek visionary scholars with aninternationally recognized research record and a strong record ofexternal grant support who will shape the future of chemistry byleveraging cutting-edge approaches to design, discovery, andapplication. Expertise in an interdisciplinary field such asphysical chemistry, chemical biology, or synthetic organicchemistry is desired, with a particular interest in candidatesincorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning(ML) into their work to drive scientific discoveries is preferred.We seek an experimentalist, but those with hybridexperimental/computational programs are welcome. The faculty member will be expected to leverage their expertise tocollaborate extensively across VCU, including with the healthsciences campus. We are particularly interested in candidates whosework complements our existing strengths while expanding our reachinto emerging areas. The successful applicant should have a vestedinterest in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students,postdoctoral fellows, and new faculty.
