Job Title: Clinical Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Cardiac Surgical ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7AM - 7:30PM Hours per Shift: 12.5 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Surgical ICU experience License: NYS RN License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Description: The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe and competent quality care based on nursing theory and research. Delivers patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care. Utilizes the nursing process based upon theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing standards. Assesses and evaluates patient care needs, applying critical thinking skills in patient care management. Integrates relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Prioritizes all aspects of patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning after hospital care. Educates patients and caregivers about their plan of care, transition of care, promotion of health, and prevention of disease. Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, families, and all members of the interdisciplinary care team. Manages assignments within the Care Delivery Model and demonstrates effective allocation of resources. Role models the tenets of Relationship Centered Care through various patient care actions. Considers patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, expressed needs, and knowledge in all aspects of care. Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Uses evidence-based practices to enhance understanding of patient perceptions of care. Initiates service recovery for patients and family members who have concerns and escalates as needed. Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening through dialogue and actions. Conducts purposeful rounding on assigned patients addressing key patient care concerns. Practices safe and efficient patient-centered care, identifying barriers and opportunities for improvement. Demonstrates clinical skills and knowledge essential to quality and safety in the patient population served. Implements process improvement strategies based on evidence and organizational procedures. Engages in formal and informal peer review processes. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement quality improvement projects and evidence-based activities. Contributes to quality and safety practices and required compliance measures. Implements principles of high reliability to provide a safe environment for patients. Utilizes institutional information technology to document nursing practice and support quality and performance improvement initiatives. Performs charge nurse duties as assigned. Coordinates with nursing leadership to ensure supplies are appropriately utilized and inventory is sufficient for patient care. Documents in an accurate and thorough manner according to regulatory standards. Facilitates patient throughput as necessary. Contributes to the environment of care to support colleagues, patients, and families. Advances clinical competence in nursing practice to progress from novice to expert. Projects a professional image and communicate with respect and empathy. Incorporates ethical principles into decision-making processes for patient care. Encourages and demonstrates a spirit of lifelong learning and innovation. Acquires knowledge and skills relevant to patient population and clinical specialty. Participates in shared decision-making through nursing department committees and unit initiatives.
