Georgetown College is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor. The Financial Aid Counselor is a student-centered professional who advises students and their families on financial aid issues, collaborates with colleagues to facilitate student recruitment and retention efforts, awards financial aid in accordance with federal, state and institutional regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations as they pertain to student financial planning.

• Provide guidance on completing and submitting financial aid applications and documents

• Analyze and evaluate the financial viability of students and families and provide advice and counsel regarding available financial aid opportunities, eligibility requirements, and the application process.

• Primary contact for office including phone and email

• Document management for the office including management of existing files

• Attend workshops and conferences for professional development

• Coordinate financial aid activities with Business Office, Registrar’s Office, Admissions Offices, Athletics, Student Success and the Development Office

• Assists in managing daily operations of the Office of Financial Planning

• Performs all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director of Financial Planning

General knowledge of financial aid processes in higher education environment and of related trends, issues and practices.

Education and / or Experience – Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent preferred

Communication / Language -- Requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and intermediate computer literacy. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

• Mathematical -- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

• Reasoning -- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw reasonable conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations -- None required

• Computer Literacy / General Office Equipment – Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel. Word, Outlook), CARS / Jenzabar System, Internet. Basic office equipment to include facsimile, copier machines, printer.
