Job Description The Office of Global Outreach & Extended Education within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Academic Success Advisor, Sr. to join our Academic Advising team. The Academic Success Advisor, Senior acts as a key contributor to promoting and supporting student retention and graduation university-wide and advises students in making timely progress toward degree completion through a range of in-person and virtual academic counseling and support strategies. This position is for experienced individuals with advanced training in academic advising and robust experience in student success activities. Position Salary Range $51,500.00 - $58,000.00 annually; DOE Essential Duties Provides individual and group academic advising and/or interacts with students in support of academic success. Works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to support academic success. Leads implementation, assessment, and improvement of effective practices in support of admission application process. Proactively monitors student academic performance; addresses, responds to, and works to resolve student concerns, questions, or issues; collaborates closely with students to identify all academic options. Acts as key contributor within advising team to ensure ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and degree progress, provides follow up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services by utilizing a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success. Acts as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success; attends and/or presents at orientation or recruiting events/activities/workshops. Establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships. Implements college/department initiatives with a holistic perspective of larger university wide priorities. Collaborates with leadership to provide solutions associated with specific programs or projects. Coordinates a program, portion of a large program, or a group of activities and functions within a department or college directed to the retention and success of the student population. This may include setting timelines, goals, and creating budgets (where applicable). Coordinates training and development related to advising services, projects and programs for staff. Contributes, assesses and evaluates advising policies, projects, or programs and implementation. Prepares detailed documents, proposals, reports based upon analysis. Escalates/redirects urgent or conflicting requests after attempting resolution. May seek to resolve complex issues and takes the lead on projects built around student support. As required, interact with key internal and external stakeholders; act as a course instructor/resource for faculty. Other duties as assigned. Desired Qualifications Knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and methods of evidence-based academic advising strategies. Ability to direct and provide support to undergraduate and/or graduate students enrolled at the university. Ability to utilize a wide range of software, student development theory and retention-focused strategies. Critical thinking skills to question, verify, and override AI outputs when necessary, ensuring the advice is appropriate for individual student circumstances. Ability to work under direct supervision to support students by performing specific, articulated goals and outcomes. Ability to understand general student requests for information and assistance; elevate urgent/conflicting requests. Applies collaborative approaches and strategies to devise solutions for student requests. Ability to utilize collegial interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships. Engages understanding of advising theories and practices; regularly monitors assessment resources to refine and build practice. Ability to rapidly master essential new technology, practices, policies and methods. Ability to prepare detailed documents, proposals, reports, and/or related materials. Ability to provide analysis of data for identification of trends. Ability to lead staff and program efforts. Ability to create assessment plans and execute assessment reports. Applies and demonstrates knowledge of supporting/guiding students through curriculum requirements; identifies and creates connections to resources for students to support goals. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in an environment focused on continuous improvement and innovation. Skilled in problem solving, who can take initiative and set priorities, while being flexible. Ability to develop action plans to meet goals; establishes milestones and timetables. Documents activities and tracks progress. Working Environment Activities are generally performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse. Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and are subject to the resolution of conflicts. May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses. May be required to travel domestically or internationally for development, implementation, and oversight of global initiatives. Ability to communicate to perform essential functions. Driving Requirement This position may require driving. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.
