Associate Art Director

The Associate Art Director is a key creative resource for the team and will have frontline responsibility for the day-to-day implementation and execution for visual concepts, assets, and graphic standards for physical and digital channels - with a focus on digital platforms such as DCUI, DC Community, DC.com, social media, and print production. The ideal candidate should be experienced with the most up-to-date design tools and practices for the creation of digital, print, and other asset and will have a strong affinity and knowledge of the DC Universe.

As part of the Brand Design & Creative Services team, this role will partner with the Marketing team, Digital team (social/DCUI), and the Franchise Development team to develop and produce content. Successful content will drive engagement and revenue for the DC brand.

Job Responsibilities / Typical Day in the Role

• Lead creative efforts to continually update DC channels with fresh, high-quality imagery that:
• Maintains a consistent visual language facilitating intuitive user flow and content consumption.
• Collaborates with Marketing, DC.COM, and DCUI teams to create a fan journey on our platforms through creative assets.
• Maximizes the strengths of the digital, print, and comic space.
• Identifies new areas of opportunities and propose ideas to the VP, Brand Design & Creative Services.
• Makes sure that the DC Brand standards are upheld.
• Develop design comps, for new social media initiatives, enhancements, and maintenance projects.
• Design multimedia effects and titles for interactive video content, motion graphics, and presentation materials.
• Organize, catalog, and maintain various graphic assets, media elements, and style guides.
• Coordinate efficient and effective working relationships with internal teams, cross-divisional partners, and external vendors.
• Carry out additional design duties as assigned.

Must Have Skills / Requirements

1. Strong InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc (Adobe CC) Expertise a. 5+ years; Portfolio to share examples required. Must be included on Cover Page and resume.
2. Strong Creative Design Ability a. 5+ years; Portfolio to share examples required. Must be included on Cover Page and resume.
3. Publishing and print production experience required. a. 5+ years; Experience working for other comic, book, print ads, marketing assets, Ad Campaign assets, etc.
4. Strong communication skills and ability to translate creative requirements. a. 5+ years; Experience working cross-functionally to align on requirements to fulfill project deadlines.

Nice to Have Skills / Preferred Requirements

1. Passion for the comic book and entertainment industry is a plus.
2. Knowledge of and an affinity for DC properties preferred.
3. Love for pop culture and trends.

Soft Skills:

1. Publishing and print production experience required.
2. Organized self-starter that can drive complex projects, high volume, and tight deadlines with minimal guidance/oversight.
3. High quality, detail-specific written and verbal communication skills.
4. Ability to manage relationships across multiple business units, departments, and external vendors.
5. Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive and productive and collaborative demeanor.
6. Must be able to maintain project confidentiality.
7. Must have the ability to manage multiple project elements and tasks simultaneously.
8. Basic familiarity with print design, formats, and production, and digital design is a requirement.

Technology Requirements:

1. Extensive experience using InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and other up-to-date design tools and Adobe CC suite.
2. Experience using motion graphics software, e.g. Adobe After Effects, Apple Motion, Final Cut Pro, etc.
3. Experience using content management systems is preferred. Knowledge of Monday.com is ideal.
4. Extensive experience using Microsoft Office tools.
5. Must provide a strong portfolio that demonstrates exceptional design skills, creative problem-solving, and experience developing high-quality assets across digital and print platforms.

Education / Certifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in graphic design, media communications, or equivalent work experience is preferred.

Interview Process / Next Steps:

1. 1st round with Sr. Art Director
2. 2nd round panel interview with Design Director, Sr. Art Directors, and Associate Art Director.
