Title: Substitute Custodian Location: To Be Determined

Employment Type: On-Call / As Needed Work Days: As Assigned

FLSA: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Operations / Building Principal

Salary/Benefits:

$15.00 per hour

Job Summary:

The Substitute Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly school environment on an as-needed basis. This position supports daily building operations by performing routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and setup tasks to ensure a positive learning and working environment for students and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent required
Ability to follow directions and work independently
Ability to perform physical tasks related to custodial duties
Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and professionalism

Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:

Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting
Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas
Empty trash and recycling receptacles and dispose of waste properly
Replenish supplies such as paper towels, soap, and toilet paper
Set up and take down furniture and equipment for school events and activities
Assist with minor maintenance tasks as assigned
Follow established safety procedures and proper use of cleaning chemicals
Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, or building needs to supervisor
Secure building areas as directed, including locking doors and checking facilities
Maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with staff
Perform other duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in a school environment
Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
Ability to follow safety procedures and directions
Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks
Strong attention to detail

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and supplies
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods
Dependability and flexibility to work varying shifts as needed
Commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment

Working Conditions:

School environment; may require evening shifts or varied hours depending on building needs. Work involves exposure to cleaning chemicals and physical activity.

Terms of Employment:

On-call position; hours vary based on district needs.
