The Inventory Control and Logistics Specialist owns inventory control and inventory accuracy through disciplined monitoring of key ERP/WMS transactions, exception/error reporting, cycle counts, reconciliation and corrective action. Supports accurate and timely domestic and international/export shipment execution in coordination with Customer Service, the Distribution Supervisor, Export Planner and other internal/external logistics partners. Provides functional distribution and receiving coverage when the Distribution Supervisor is out of the office or additional operational support is required. Supports continuous improvement of inventory, transaction and logistics processes through data analysis, standard work and root-cause corrective action.
Responsibilities
- Monitor key inventory and warehouse transactions in D365/ERP, including receipts, transfers, picks, shipments, returns and inventory adjustments; identify errors, exceptions and unusual transaction activity.
- Own and maintain inventory exception/error reporting. Investigate discrepancies promptly, determine root cause, coordinate corrections and implement actions to prevent recurrence.
- Monitor inventory accuracy performance and execute or coordinate cycle counts, physical inventories and reconciliation activities to ensure physical inventory and system inventory remain aligned.
- Review inventory adjustments and transaction errors for patterns, process breakdowns or training needs; escalate material risks and recurring issues with clear facts and recommended actions.
- Maintain inventory-control KPIs and reporting, including inventory accuracy, cycle-count completion, adjustments, transaction errors and other measures established by management.
- Coordinate inventory accuracy and reconciliation requirements with applicable 3PL locations and internal stakeholders.
- Support domestic shipment execution and problem resolution as needed, working with the Distribution Supervisor, Customer Service, carriers and other internal functions.
- Support the international/export shipment process in partnership with Customer Service, the Distribution Supervisor and Export Planner. Help ensure shipment readiness, system accuracy, required documentation and timely handoffs to freight forwarders, carriers and/or brokers.
- Review and support export-shipment documentation and process requirements, including commercial invoices, packing lists and other required shipping documents, while working within established company export/compliance procedures.
- Maintain sufficient knowledge of receiving, warehousing, order fulfillment and shipping processes to provide effective operational back-up for the Distribution Supervisor when needed.
- During Distribution Supervisor absences, coordinate daily distribution/receiving priorities, address execution issues and escalate material service, inventory, safety or shipment risks to the EDC Plant Manager.
- Partner with Customer Service, Supply Chain, Finance and Distribution to resolve inventory, order, shipment and system-transaction issues.
- Use D365 and available reporting tools to identify abnormalities, improve transaction discipline and provide timely visibility to inventory and logistics performance.
- Develop and maintain standard work for inventory-control transactions, error resolution, reconciliation and other assigned logistics processes.
- Participate in and support continuous-improvement activities that improve inventory accuracy, shipment reliability, service and cost.
- Coordinate the annual physical inventory when required, including planning, count preparation, execution support, reconciliation, variance investigation, documentation and timely closeout with Operations and Finance.
- Partner with Finance on quarterly internal audits of the cycle-count program. Provide supporting records, investigate findings and ensure agreed corrective actions are completed.
- Own monthly reporting of cycle-count program performance and key metrics, including count completion, inventory accuracy, variances/adjustments, recurring error trends and corrective-action status.
Requirements
- Four-year degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- Five or more years of warehouse, distribution, logistics and/or inventory-control experience with strong working knowledge of distribution and receiving processes.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with inventory accuracy, transaction monitoring, cycle counting, reconciliation, inventory adjustments and root-cause corrective action.
- Working knowledge of domestic shipping and practical experience supporting international/export shipments, documentation and coordination with freight forwarders, carriers and/or customs brokers preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with demonstrated ability to identify transaction errors, investigate exceptions and drive corrective action.
- ERP/WMS experience required; D365 experience strongly preferred.
- Strong cross-functional communication and coordination skills. This is an individual-contributor role with no direct reports currently assigned; success depends on functional leadership, influence and disciplined follow-through.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. periodically.
- Some periodic travel to vendors, logistics providers, 3PL locations and other company facilities.
- Requires periods of sedentary work as well as regular presence in an active warehouse/distribution environment.
- Requires repetitive upper-body movement, keyboarding and monitor use.
