Position Details Position ID(s): 4551 Position Title: Hydrology Assistant - AmeriCorps Program: Scientists in Parks, Stewards Individual Placements Location: Yosemite National Park, El Portal, California Number of positions: 1 Terms of Service Duration: 12 Weeks (not flexible) Flexible Start Date: Yes Start Date: 01/18/2027 End Date: 04/12/2027 AmeriCorps Slot Classification: 450 hours (minimum) Benefits Segal AmeriCorps Education Award: $1,956.00 (pre‑tax) upon successful completion Weekly Living Allowance: $675.00 per week (fixed rate, pre‑tax) Relocation Allowance: $450.00 (one‑time lump sum with first paycheck, pre‑tax) Student Loan Forbearance and Interest Payments: if applicable, administered by MyAmeriCorps Responsibilities Conduct analysis and interpretation of data from water quality samples, stream gages, groundwater monitoring wells, and snowpack in Tuolumne Meadows and Yosemite Valley Apply groundwater/surface‑water modeling techniques or end‑member mixing analysis to investigate recharge dynamics and residence times Produce analytical figures and summarize findings in a final report Assist in collecting and managing field data, including basic map reading, GPS orientation, and rugged‑terrain hiking Deliverables Analytical figures and data tables supporting project objectives Final report summarizing results and recommendations for park managers Qualifications U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident alien High school diploma or equivalency; will obtain a high school diploma before use of education award if not already completed Availability for the entire 12‑week term Completion of National Service Criminal History Check and host‑site security background check Preferred Qualifications Undergraduate degree in hydrology, chemistry, earth sciences, or related field (or current/recent graduate student) Experience with geochemical, water‑quality, groundwater, or stream‑flow data Strong data analysis and scientific writing skills Proficiency in coding and handling large environmental datasets Independent field and office work skills; basic map reading, GPS, and cross‑country hiking capability Housing Park housing is available at no cost. Units are furnished with beds, couches, tables, dressers, full bathrooms, range, oven, and refrigerator. Living is in shared facilities (dorm, apartment, or house) in El Portal, often sharing a kitchen and living space with another individual. Personal items such as bedding, towels, cookware, and cleaning supplies should be brought. Wi‑Fi is available at the library, community center, and two residential hubs; pets are not permitted. Vehicle and Driver’s License Requirements Valid driver’s license required to operate a government vehicle Personal vehicle recommended Time Requirements Full‑time service each week; schedules may vary based on project needs Potential participation in national, state, or local service projects or events during the term Orientation and Training Project and site training provided by the host site Orientation on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities Access to free professional development webinars offered by Conservation Legacy staff Evaluation and Reporting Requirements Performance evaluated on completion of minimum AmeriCorps hours, satisfactory assignment completion, and adherence to performance criteria.
